Incremental backups not doing as setup?

Thread needs solution

Hello, I have TI 2013, build 6514. For some reason, I have it set to incremental backups, a full backup after every 4 incrementals and a total of 4 incrementals. So far, it shows 2 full backups back to back and 6 incrementals. It doesn't seem to know that some of the incrementals need to be deleted. Any fix for this?? Thanks.

dart451,
Suggest you stop the old task and start a new task using the settings as per below. The text information with the illustration is important that you understand what the settings will produce in backups. Start the new task with a new empty storage folder. My recommendation about editing an existing taxk is do NOT edit an existing task. If the task needs correcetion, my suggestion is to start a new task.

Figure 11-Inc: Example of custom/incremental backup method settings
If using incremental type backups (which is full +?Inc), the 11-Inc is my recommended method. Change the 6 or 4 to fit your needs.

In this example, one chain or one recent version chain =1 full plus 6 inc or 7 files.
If keeping 4 recent version chains (4 chains of 7 each) retention would be 28 files. Deletion begins after the 29 backup.
Allow space for 1 more full than your selected number (4) as TI will NOT delete the oldest full or chain until its replacement has been created. Also understand the limitations/risk factor of incremental backups. If one inc backups gets corrupt, all newer inc are worthless so avoid excessive number of incremental backups. Always maintain a full backup set which are current This explains why my keeping a reasonable number of x "recent version chains" can be important. Keeping a high number of incremental is a high risk factor to your backups and should be avoided.
For a better understanding of the differences between Inc and Dif as it relates to the safety factor, review this link.
