Initial backup is very large: how to automate

Thread needs solution

The internal drive I'm backing up to is 2 TB. My initial backup is 1.05 TB. I've got it set to create an initial full backup, then an incremental backup weekly. After 8 weeks, I was planning on moving all 8 files to an external hard drive and leaving my internal 2 TB blank for the next set of backups. The problem is that on week 8 when it tries to create another full backup, it's always out of space and fails. How can I automate this or somehow prevent it from failing?

Thanks,

Eliezer

Eliezer, thanks for your description of the issue for your backups.

What version of Acronis True Image are you using here?

The issue that you are facing is simply that your backup drive is not large enough to hold a minimum of 2 full backup images that is needed for the Automatic Cleanup rules to work - no old backups are deleted until the next full backup has been created successfully, hence you get the out of space error.

There is no easy way to get around this short of getting a larger backup drive unless you can split the source data for your backups, i.e. if you are backing up multiple different partitions or drives, then split these into separate backup tasks and separate backup images - this will make recovery easier too if you only need to recover a single partition and a drive.

Thank you, Steve, that's a great idea! (Using TIH 2014)
