initial nonstop backup keeps stopping despite no other activity

Thread needs solution

I have Win7 Prof x64 installed with C: on a 60 GB SSD and everything else on a 1 TB hdd (D:), including junctions for Users and ProgramData. On a second 1 TB hdd I've created an Acronis Secure Zone, and my intention is to use nonstop backup of C: and D: (minus some temp files, etc.) into the asz. Obviously the second hdd capacity is slightly less, but with file exclusions, compression, and the fact that neither C: or D: are (yet) full, this shouldn't be an issue for some time.

The nonstop backup set is created and appears to be working, but the initial backup never completes (after a few days so far) — Acronis keeps stopping the job after an hour or two. I realise this is normal behaviour if demand on system resources trips some threshold level, but the thing is it's still happening even after I shut down the bulk of background processes and left only Acronis running overnight. I came back this morning and it had again stopped before completing. After restart it's been going for an hour or so but showing 5-7 days to complete.

On top of that I find it a little frustrating that there appears to be no real way to see status in terms of proportion of the backup job already completed. And browsing into the asz (after UAC confirmation) shows nothing stored there. Though the logs do seem to indicate it's completed; I'm sceptical.

Is this normal or indicating a fault somewhere?

I've just discovered that the nonstop backup service is crashing intermittently (in Event Log). And is producing these errors:

Justin,

What build of 2012 are you using?

I have seen reports of some systems having problems when using the SZ as the NSB repository. The problem in using the SZ is that NSB works by continuing until it has no more space. It does consolidate files, but the problem is the SZ is restricted in size.

How much space have you given to the Secure Zone?

Have you tried running a repair install of 2012?

Update 2.1 of ATIH 2012 (build 7133). This is all on a freshly built Win7 machine too. In theory the SZ could fill up, but at the moment there's more than enough free space. And even if that was the problem, it'd be a pretty piss poor design if it simply crashed the software without any warning or explanation!

I'll try a repair install though, as you suggest Colin.

Did repair install and also added the plus pack. No joy. Still crashing every few hours. Not real impressed, frankly.

Justin,

Make the NSB repository on anothe rdrive or partition temporarily instead of the SZ and see fi the problem disappears.

I ended up taking the cheaper upgrade offer for ATIH 2013, and that appears to be working fine now. I did a full wipe of the original ASZ partition and re-created it in 2013. The nonstop backup ran to completion on first attempt, no errors in Event logs.
