Installation of Acronis True Image 2011 build 5105 fails on Win7 Pro 64bit
Hello
I've upgraded to Acronis True Image 2011 but can't install it on my Windows 7.
The following error message appears:
"The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer again."
Acronis True Image 2010 build 7046 runs fine on thi PC.
Acronis Disk Director 11 build 216 runs fine, too
And Acronis True Image 2011 build 5105 runs fine on Windows XP SP3 32bit which I have on a 2nd partition of the same PC.
I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 build 11.0.1.400 on both partitons.
I've read http://kb.acronis.com/content/13774 and deactivated Kaspersky Internet - without success.
This article http://forum.acronis.com/forum/13724 didn't help, too.
Please fix it. Thanks.

Andreas,
Check in registry for the following entry
{DB06F6C3-FBDE-54D4-360A-045DF6E16295}
in registry keys
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UpgradeCodes
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\UpgradeCodes
If it exists delete them.
The above entry appears in your log file as:
1: MSIGEN:Determing context for {3C6F60BD-EDBF-4D45-A063-59261E6FD540}
1: MSIGEN:Error occured during CheckForUpgradeCode for {BB812720-62FC-466F-BB97-4230E06982FE}: 1605

Colin
I can find the key {DB06F6C3-FBDE-54D4-360A-045DF6E16295} neither in the registry nor in the file system.
But I found the key {3C6F60BD-EDBF-4D45-A063-59261E6FD540} as a directory in c:\Windows\installer\ containing the file product.ico
I've deleted this key in the file system and the registry but without success.
I've also switched off the UAC (User Account Control) before installing but without success.
It looks like installing of Acronis True Image 2011 has become very difficult for Windows 7 users. :-)
Kind regards,
Andreas

OK, I have no further ideas at this moment.
Have you double checked your (c:\users\user_name\appdata\local\temp) folder and deleted the contents again?

I've found this thread http://forum.acronis.com/forum/13724 and I'm not sure whether ATI 2011 has a general error for installing on Win7 64bit or not. I need help because I can't install on my Windows 7 Pro 64bit but I've paid for it.
Thanks.

Andreas,
With Colin's advice on installing and upgrade to 2011 from 2010, I have succesfully installed 2011 and at the time of this writing, am currently running a partition backup of a Win7/64 computer.
This is what I did.
1. Executed CCleaner to make sure all Temp Files were gone.
2. Made sure I was loggined in as an ADMIN
3. Executed Revo Uninstaller on my TIH2010 Install
4. Rebooted.
5. Installed TIH2011 on a Win7/64 Computer and entered the current 2011 key and the 2010 key. My Install was an Upgrade.
6. Rebooted.
7. Started the TIH2011 Program and Selected a partition backup, gave it a path to an External Data Drive and said GO..
There is approx 97 gig to backup so it will be a while before it is finished. I do not have a spare drive to test a full recovery but that will be coming in about a week. I really believe in testing for real. When it comes to disaster, I need to know that it will work.

Steve

Andreas,
The first partition (C Drive) completed without error.
I am currently backing up the second drive (Another Win7/64) bootable disk that I use only for an emergency.
The only question at this point is, will the partition backup actually create a win7 bootable disk should I have to restore to a new drive. We will test that when I get the new drive.
This is my first action with 2011 and I did not see the "Validate" option... maybe I missed seeing it on the menu.
One thing did catch my attention though. The C Drive showed 97 gig used and the partition backup was only about 52 gig ...hummmm....
When the second partition backup is complete, I'll mount the image and see if I can restore a folder to a new location.

I mounted the newly created "C" drive partition image and attempted to restore a folder to a test location on the C drive. I opened 2 windows.
1 Window was viewing the mounted backup partition and I had drilled down to a folder I was going to move to a new test location on the C drive.
The 2nd window showed empty test location on the C drive.
The very moment I tried to "DRAG and DROP" a folder from the mounted backup, my mouse FROZE and was not recoverable. Keyboard worked, I could do Ctrl/Alt/Del and bring up task manager, ESC to close but NO MOUSE.
I had to PWR OFF to Boot and and restore the mouse action.
So, bottom line....
1st Test was a failure.

Revision of 1st Test....
Retest was successful without any problems....
Switched mouse from USB (connected with adapter as a PS2) to a regular ball mouse and test was OK.
Switched back to USB Mouse (Connected with PS2 Adapter) and Rebooted
Tested with original mouse and test was OK.
SO...Bottom Line...So far so good... Not sure why 1st test froze mouse but these 2 tests were fine.

Hello
Just to point out: I have troubles to install Acronis True Image 1011 build 5105. And that's what I do on Windows 7 Pro 64bit:
1. Login as administrator
2. Double click onto the file ATIH2011_5105_de-DE.exe
-> The following error message appears:
"The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer again."
There's no mask between asking for a registration ode or accepting the license or what ever has to appear. Really nothing.
I've tried to install when rebooted into the save mode but then the installer won't work at all.
Any help installing it?
Thanks, Andreas

Andreas,
1. Check that your temporary folder is empty - You will need to have view hidden files and folders as well as system files enabled for viewing.
if using XP the folder lives c:\my documents and settings\your user name\app data\temp, if Vista or W7 it is located at c:\users\your users name\app data\local\temp .
Some files may be in use and not be able to be deleted, but delete everything else. Then retry installing TI2011.
2. If the above doesn't work and you have had a previous version of TI installed (including a trial version), run the TI installer but right click on the main install menu as per the attached snip. Select extract the installer file.

3. Download the attached file and store it in the same folder that you have extracted the MSI installer file to.
4. Remove the txt file ending so the file name is ATIH2011MSILog.bat
5. Double click on the file.
6. If installation fails again, there will now be an install log file. Remove any serial numbers, email addresses or names from it and post it here.
For all of the above, it might be worthwhile disabling your Firewall software, during the install - obviously disconnect form th einternet during this time.

Hi Colin
I did - once again - exactly the steps you've recommended. But I've got the same result as described in my comment #12.
The temp folder has 2 files in use.
The C: drive has 31.9 GB free space
I've took a look into the log file. Do you know that it means?
1: MSIGEN:Error occured during CheckForUpgradeCode for {BB812720-62FC-466F-BB97-4230E06982FE}: 1605
The key BB812720-62FC-466F-BB97-4230E06982FE could not be found in the registry.
What means error code 1605?
As described in #12 I expect to see a mask where I can enter the registration code. But this mask does not appear. Why?
There are some more error codes which I can not understand. Who can I ask?
What's so difficult? I can install True Image 2010 and Disk Director 11 but not True Image 2011.
Thanks for any help, Andreas

You don't see a place to insert your serial number, because probably the installer has found one in registry that it is trying to use.
I don't see the normal error that normally shows when this occurs, in the log.
I"m afraid I don't know what an error 1605 means.
I can only now suggest the folowing two things.
1. Re-install TI2010 and then attempt another uninstall, and see if that solves the problem.
2. Raise a support ticket with Acronis.

Hi Colin
I've cleaned up the registry after deinstalling.
I've also started the Process Explorer from Sysinternals to see if there are some permissions missing - nothing found.
I did point 1. and 2. you've suggested - but without any reply yet (except the automatic response :-) )
Kind regards, Andreas

Hi
I've found a list of installer error codes: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/229683
Error code 1605 means: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.
This may look like a wrong parameter somewhere.

Do the German versions still use Licence Server?

License Server? I don't know. But I do not expect a difference to the english version in this point

Error code 1605 : This action is only valid for products that are currently installed
in my experience means that there are leftovers from previous installations, and these may be blocking any and all further attempts.
Historically, I used to use dedicated registry cleaners to wipe the slate... jv16 power tools, I think. They would help, too.
In a single (recent) case, my installation of Java was corrupted beyond any repair or removal, and it ended up with a complete OS reinstallation. Hope it does not come to that with you.

I've used TuneUp 2010 and CCleaner to remove all rests of previous installation which were left by deinstallation. But it didn't help.
There's also no hit searching for "Acronis" in file system and registry.
What else? Reinstall Windows completely from scratch?

Andreas,
One possibility might be to restore your system back to the 2010-7046 level.
Then try using a program such as Revo Uninstaller and uninstall 7046 from inside the Revo program.
When the uninstall is complete, do NOT reboot but continue on with the Revo options and it will show residue left over from the uninstall.
Go ahead and remove everything suggested by Revo. Reboot lastly when done.
If you do this, what do you have to lose? I have used this procedure when moving from 7046 to 2011 beta and from 2011 beta to the recent current 5105. This is your call and it may or may not provide success but it is another option.

Hello all,
Thank you very much for your posts. I appreciate your kind assistance.
Andreas,
I will do my best to assist you.
I have analyzed the .msi log that you provided from build 5105 and the installation does indeed fail because of a previously deleted product.
Since you are trying to install the latest build (5519) I would really appreciate if you can provide me with a new log and I will be able to resolve this for you. Alternatively, you can also contact our Support team with these log files:
1. AcronisInfo.
2. Msi Log.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Hello Anton
I've already opened a ticked. It got the number 00868321
The requested files are here. I hope it helps :)
And I've also checked the KB articles 13923, 8128, 2707 and 13923 once more - without success.
I've found some left in c:\windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository: timounter_2k.inf and timntr_a64.sys and deleted them.
Thanks,
Andreas

Hello
I do always a full backup during the weekend and have installed TrueImage 2010 Build 7046 again.
I needed to create the tasks again as expected. But I did not expect to see the old image entries in the Recovery part.
Where are they stored?
Why where they not removed by deinstall or by deleting all subdirectories having the substring Acronis?
Or - what was the "improvement" in the installation procedure?
Kind regards,
Andreas
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires
Andreas,
They may well have been removed but since 7046 also uses the Meta-file. Most likely 7046 simply added the entries into the Meta-file as it did its scan looking for any *.tib files to be added to the Recovery list. This is just a normal part of the program.
While 7046 cannot restore a 2011 backup, I certainly would not want these *.tib files to be deleted by the program. Only the user should have the right to make deletions to backup files. You can retain your 2011 REscue CD and use it to perform a restore of the 2011 backup files should they be needed.
Hopefully, you will get your support ticket resolved soon.

Hi Grover
I save my backups onto an external HDD which I had disconnected. I have them still. :)
But - I can still not install Acronis TrueImage 2011 build 5519 which I have purchased. I expect to see the EULA as the first window. But the installer displays only the error message "The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer again." You can find the log files in entry #26.
Do you have a helpful tip?
Thanks,
Andreas

Andreas,
Have you tried restoring a 7046 backup and then perform an un-install using Revo.
After the uninstall and then cleanout by Revo, then try installing 5519.
I am just trying to offer you possibilities.

Hi Colin
Yes, I did - without success.
There's a detail more I've detected. The first screen after start install is always the welcome screen.
But True Image 2011 is an exception. The first screen here is the User Account Screen asking for admin permission.
Acronis has definitely something changed.

Andreas

Hi
The Acronis supportteam sent me a message with the crucial tip: delete all entries beginning with DB06F6C3.
I found a lot of them in the registry (more than mentioned in this thread) and one in the file system left by Acronis True Image 2010.
I could install now Acronis True Image 2011. And I hope Acronis will find an easier way to remove such left entries.

Andreas

Hello Andreas,
Thank you for getting back to us.
I am very happy that the issue was successfully resolved.
Please accept my apologies for this major inconvenience due to the lack of a clean-up utility. As you probably heard, we had to remove our clean up utility for Acronis True Image Home because Microsoft removed its Windows Installer Cleanup utility from their website due to some issues.
We are very close to releasing our own clean up utility for Acronis True Image Home and as soon as it is available, we shall post an announcement in the forum.
If there is anything else I can do, please let me know.
Thank you.

Hi - I'm facing the same problems with an installation of ATIH 2011. Has there been any progress on the clean up utility? I have the feeling it's going to be needed... At the moment ATIH won't install - consistently gives an error message "can't access... " and then rolls back. I'm following the instructions given above to see if I can sort things out myself, but the clean up utility sounds as if it's what I'll need...

My registry does not have any entries db06f6c3. My experience with XP home and Windows 7. Pro is that nothing happens after I click the Acronis tih_s_e.exe. On the XP windows warned about security certificate once only, the win7 did/does nothing.

Charles,
Exactly what is your problem, and are you installing 2010 or 2011 on which OS? both the ones you mentioned or just one of them?
Have you had previous versions installed including trial ones?
If you haven't then registry entries won't exist, so no use searching for them.
Have you checked to make sure your AV software is not denying access?
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires
I either double click the exe file or right click and select open and nothing happens. Yes the reaction is the same on XP and windows 7. I have not had any problems installing Acronis 11 and upgrading to Acronis 2009/2010. I have AVG on this windows 7 computer Avast on the XP. I have suspended Avast but not AVG without installation success. Thanks

I'll go into msconfig and uncheck the AVG startup and see what happens.

Anti-virus is not running and neither is tih_s_e.exe. XP home computer is running Acronis 2009/2010 and Acronis 11 works on this newly built Windows 7 computer. For security sake I am going to reopen AVG.

Yana, this is George from muvipix.
I've created the Linux Report as you suggested, and I 've attached it to a message to Acronis support?
Does that constitute opening a case or is there something else I need to do? Where would I find the Case Report number?

Finally received an email from Acronis support team. Getting to the team was tedious but I am glad to receive help.
Suggested approach from Acronis was to check for latest update. I followed the highlighted web site and picked the first build to download. Another 181 MB file. It did not open either. From here I think that I solved the problem myself. I can't restore the path that I took but the solution was found: I opened the downloaded files location, opened the properties (to check file version, etc). I have never observed an "unblock" box before but I clicked it to unblock (whatever). And the program installed and appears to be operational.
I will try making a backup after I close out this comment. Thanks to previous comments.

Backup was successful.. In a day or 2 I'll try a sample restore, which is the main idea for making backups in the first place. Does anyone know whether a recovery CD like I have for Acronis 11 should be made, could be made, or whether the current CD is OK? Thank you. Charles

A new CD for 2011 should be made and checked to make sure it will boot your system.
A new CD ought to be made for each new version and build as they are installed. I suggest writing the version and build number on the CD's.

I installed the ATI 2011 14.0.6868 last night and got the same error as Andreas Manz did: "The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer again.".
I had double checked and set up an ideal environment for its installation:
- COM + System Application, Distributed Transaction Coordinator, Volume Shadow Copy STARTED
- anti-virus OFF
- firewall OFF
- all other apps CLOSED
I found the error codes at the of the install log but cannot figure out what they mean. Could somebody look at it and let me know what is wrong?
Thank you in advance for any helps.

Was the backup of data files?
Or, of your OS and programs?
I'd like to know for CERTAIN that the backup that I made on an external drive of my OS and programs will actually work when the time comes, inevitably, that I will need to perform a restore by booting from my Acronis boot CD.
Can you guide me how to do that?

Yes, and that is one reason some experts advise, "If you've got a build that is working for you, do not upgrade as Acronis is infamous for putting out non-working upgrades."

I now run Rollback-RX before any and all installations, including of Windows updates. RR takes, in a few seconds, a "snapshot" of one's system and, if a problem appears, you can quickly "rollback" to your previous state (and it takes only a fraction of the space on your HDD of System Restore, which in my experience can't be trusted).

Mahn Lee,
Your log is showing error 1603 which is happening when the installer is trying to create the extensions to integrate ATI with your control panel for your 64bit system. (search for "1603" in your install log).
Is it possible that you have some anti malware software protecting your registry? Malware registry protection is sometimes separate from virus scanning.

The most certain way is to do an actual restore to a test disk before you issues.
A backup of your OS will normally enable you to overlay your current C drive with that of the backup. This is something you might need to do if you have a virus or a program malfunction. However, if you should need to create a replacement disk for whatever reason, a single backup of your system is normally NOT sufficient to achieve a bootable replacement. Your system disk may contain other partitions which need to be included in your backup. In other words, you need to have a backup which includes all partitions or everything on the disk. If your prior backup included everything, then you are probably ok. But if it didn't then make a complete backup right away. The best method to do this is make the backup when booted from the TI Bootable Media Recovery CD. One easy method to determine how many partitions are in your system is to view them inside Windows Disk management using the Graphical view. Right click on the MyComputer icon and click on MANAGE and select Disk Management. The graphical view will illustrate whether you have any non-lettered partitions. All the partitions shown need to be included either in one backup (best) or individual backups of each partition.
Using the CD enables you to check to make sure the disk containing your backup is accessible from the CD. Also important that you choose the validate option so the validation can be done as part of the backup. As the CD is the prime vehicle for recovery, you need to be familiar with its capabilities and that it will work with your system.
