I/O device read error
I've had an issue with the i/o read error the first full backup I tried. I am running Vista SP2 and have a brand new 2 TB Seagate hard drive installed thinking that Acronis would be the best backup software since Seagate uses it to transfer OS & files from the old drive to the new one. It went without a hitch. I installed Acronis True Image Home 2012 on my desktop and laptop, and haven't got to make a backup yet. I read reviews of the different software for backup and Acronis was rated as #1 so I didn't expect problems. It looks as though several people are having this issue. Do you have any idea of what's going on. Will the software not work with the larger hard drives?

I get the error at the start of the backup while it is trying to take a snap shot of the partition.

RonnieMc, thank you for the details you have provided and for your invaluable feedback regarding our products. With regards to your backup issue you experience at present, would you be so kind as to attempt to backup one and the same files / folders or disk / partitions to an internal hard disk drive as opposed to your external hard drive. This will clarify the issue with respect to a hardware or software matter.
Despite attempting to backup to an internal HDD the operation still fails with a similar or identical error message you have kindly attached, please head to the Windows Event Viewer, and take a screen shot of or save the System and Application event logs as visible from the left pane of the Event Viewer tool. You may quickly browse through the error entries and peruse the error messages to pinpoint an I/O device error or an Acronis error. Once locating the event entries pertaining to your issue, will you be so kind as to take screenshots and/or save the Application and System events and attach them with your following reply. We may then analyse these to see what the root cause of the issue may be.
Also, to help us better understand your environment and the operations you carried out in the past, is it possible that you currently have backup archives and/or backup chains within your Seagate drive? A chain of backups that have metadata files for the archives could be the result of the issue, as the product might have difficulties accessing the metadata file located on your USB drive, and therefore the continuation of your backup chain could not initiate and would fail before even proceeding with the snapshot of your disk and partitions.
Any other details as to what errors you receive and the backup operations you have tried to carry out will be much appreciated. Please notify us and provide us with the information we have kindly asked from your side.
