Laptop with SSD and NO CD-drive - Best practice?
I have an LG laptop with an internal SSD Drive which has a C-partition (System - programmes, etc), a D-partition (My Documents, My Pictures, etc). Furthermore there are TWO more pre-installed partitions, one of 1,5 GB with some kind of recovery functionality, and labeled "Active", and a second one of15 GB labeled "OEM-partition".
I have installed ATIH 2012.
All my documents, pictures, music, etc on the D-drive, is regulary backed up to an NAS-drive.
But what would the best strategy be if I find myself in either of the following scenarios:
1. Windows 7 or another programme gets corrupted, but the SSD is intact, meaning I would like to get the whole system back to a point when I made a full image of the C-drive.
2. The whole disk crashes and rendered useless, which means buying a new SSD, probably larger this time.
Should I make a full backup image, store one copy on the D-drive and another copy on the NAS, or elsewhere?
In order to be able to restore everything, including those two pre-installed recovery and OEM-partitions, should I back them up separatly, or make an image of the WHOLE SSD? Should I use the "sector-by-sector" option?
As this PC does not have an internal CD-player, nor do I have an external one, I guess I will have to rely on making a rescue USB-stick with the ATIH 2012 rescue media tool. But should I also have an image on that same USB-stick (given that the USB flash drive is large enough), or can I have a separate USB-stick with a copy of my full image on it?
Thanks!
