Major issues with Enterpise Acronis True Image Echo Server...

Thread needs solution

OK, so we did come here to have a sample of Acronis's newest True Image Ehoe Enterprise Server product and; well all I can say is wow! While documentation does not seem to abound here, it was unclear whether the newest build of Acronis would work properly with Windows Server 2008x64 R2 Enterprise; as we run nothing but servers and server OS's and what is Microsoft is all Windows Server 2008 x64 Enterprise. I have migrated one machine to Windows Server 2008 x64 R2 Enterprise RTM (I know they are making it official on the 22'nd, but we are have the RTM already; and we and you have had the project in RC's and BETA's for how long???) After attempting an install of a slightly older demo build someone had obtained here prior to my request and download the other day, that install was met with a partial installation and complete incompatibility; with a dialog box that indicated it was incapable of operation on WS08 x64 R2 Ent.

So, I attempted to run a normal uninstall and through the ordinary process in Add/Remove programs, it acted as if it uninstalled properly; gave a dialog indicating it was shutting down the processes/service(s) it installed (for whatever reason it installs itself all over the place with exception of the application .exe when it is not compatible anyway; the developers here should know better than that...)

Not knowing this at the time, I rebooted (it didn't even prompt me to, but that is best practices anyway...) Next we tried to install the new demo to see if Acronis's developers had not yet made it compatible either and were prompted this time; mind you even with it installing more junk that it could not install this demo version because there was already an installation present!

While I can waste more time and become further frustrated and set the standard throughout our organization to never attempt to use Acronis products again and after 30 years in IT and as a developer I would be able to blow more time deleting the slew of garbage installed as well as removing all of the hundreds of registry keys installed as well. What is not fathomable is how your executables made this mess when it takes a mere hour to code into your source not to install at all on OS's that it is incapable of, but why in the world if you 1) are making such products that install themselves and are incompatible with an OS (which should never happen...) 2) Why is there not an uninstaller for your software? This is not the first time this company has heard any of this and a company employee said an uninstaller for W7 (same code base as Server R2...) would be put on the to-do list. Every single bit of this is unacceptable to our organization and if we ever developed things in such a manner would have gone under in that regard years ago.

Obviously, we will not be trying or buying, but you need to educate yourselves on a few things as far as standard best use practices as well as since you currently are incapable in that regard, furnish everyone with an executable that will clean up your mess once you have made it if you are not going to use common sense in not only proper documentation with your product line, but no one should be where we are at the moment with software that is incompatible yet installs Megs of data, running processes and services, yet refuses to uninstall - it should never installed to begin with!

Please furnish us and the rest of the world something to clean up your mess with if you are going to go about things in such an irresponsible manner; it would be of help to many current and or potential customers and no individual or company should be forced to spend time and money due to what I am am not pleased to have written, nor should I have had to.

Please contact us ASAP if you actually are hiding an uninstaller utility executable; if it is on the "to do" list, don't bother contacting us as we will rectify things the hard way. As for the sales phone call we received the other day, please lament our displeasure with your entire operation here and advise them that it would be a waste of their time and money to contact us in the future regarding licensing your products, for we have no interest at this point. Maybe some years from now when the company implements some changes in everything you do form marketing, documentation to end product.
