Messup with Acronis

Thread needs solution

I have gotten into a mess with my Acronis true image home programme and need to uninstall it, then reinstall. However, I get a fatal error message when I try to uninstall through add and remove programmes. I also cannot find the programme?
Can you help please.

Hi Roger,

Which version of ATI? What OS? Exactly what problems have you had?

I'm on windows Xp pro. I can't find the version number because I think I may have deleted the programme. I want to delete all the programme, including the reference in add and remove, but it won't delete and just tells me I have a fatal error.
I've asked the supplier for my purchase detai,ls but they directed me to this forum. I guess it's a question of "you've paid your money, now pass on to the guys who do our job for love."
I never thought much to it actually, far too complicated, and I just wanted a simple backup method to a remote hard drive. I want to get rid of it completely.

Try the free Revo Uninstaller. Other users here reported better success with it than the XP uninstaller.

Hi Roger,

If you still have your downloaded copy of ATI, run it (install it). When the installer asks to reboot, select Cancel or No. Then go to Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs, and uninstall ATI. That hopefully should do the trick of fully removing ATI.

Anyway, ATI, if installed correctly, is the slickest method available for backing up and restoring your computer. I am wondering why you are wanting to dump ATI from your computer system?

That's a problem, I don't have my installer copy of ATI and I can't get anyone at Acronis to give it to me - see my second message.
I find it far too complicated with so many options. All I want to do is back up my hard drive occasionally, not run through all the options they give.

Roger, maybe try the freeware Easeus image backup software. They have a new version now that says it is Win 7 happy. Easeus is simple, it has no extras at all.

Roger,
If you registered your Acronis software with Acronis, you will find your serial number and a copy of of your downloads listed there.

Or, if you have an email copy or something like that for your purchase of Acronis, you can send Acronis support a private message with the purchase data and they can assist you.

Or if you are buying a new disk, both Western Digital and Seagate offer a free version of TrueImage but with fewer features.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I managed to get my registration from Acronis and downloaded a fresh version. But when I come to delete it in 'add and delete programes' it gives me a blue screen. I give up!!

Hello all,

Please accept our profound apologies for the delay with the response and for the difficulties you've experienced.

DwnNDrty, Fungus and GroverH: thank you very much for your help.

Roger Hughes, let me help you with the issue. If you still can't uninstall/re-install Acronis software, I may recommend you to have a look at AcronisClean-Up Utility, that cleans up traces of Acronis True Image from operating system.

Two additional components are required to use the utility:

  • DevCon - command-line utility that is an alternative to the Windows Device Manager. Read more in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272.
  • Msizap.exe - command-line utility performs cleanup operations on the Windows Installer configuration management information. Msizap.exe is a part of Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

If there is no DevCon in the system, you can download it from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272, and place it in Windows\system32. Or you can just run Acronis Clean Up Utility, and will offer to remove Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer manually:

(!) See Removing Acronis Backup Archive Explorer for instructions on how to remove it manually.

If there is no Msizap.exe, then Acronis Clean Up Utility will offer to download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the Microsoft web-site:

On the selection screen you will be prompted to enter "y" to remove all Acronis products, "t" to remove Acronis True Image Home only or "n" to exit:

You will be asked to terminate the Windows Explorer process during cleanup process, since this is necessary to remove the tishell.dll andtimounter.dll Acronis files, which interact with explorer.exe:

In the end you will be asked to reboot the machine to complete the removal process.

Important note

  • You need to log in using account with administrative privileges to be able to run Acronis Clean Up Utility.

If the issue still persists, please try to uninstall Acronis True Image Home 2009 manually. Please have a look at this KB article for the detailed instructions on how to do that.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to assist you further.

Thank you.
