Mismatch between Acronis version registry and actual versions present - how to solve it?
The biggest issue I always have with Acronis (currently 2013 for me, but also with other versions) is the way Acronis keeps track of the backup versions.
Now here's a simple example I ran into yesterday:
- I had to restore my system disk for some reason to a backup from the previous week. Acronis did this job flawlessly!
- But: Acronis also now believes that the backup files were performed till last week. However, those backup files reside on an external disk (of course) and still contain backup versions of files from the last week till today. These are ignored by Acronis!
- As a result my PC came back to it's correct state, but not Acronis itself (and error messages etc start to occur)
I have asked this before but never got a good working solution for this. So I try again: how can I tell Acronis to reconstruct the 'version history' based on the backup files which are actually present. I had hoped that the 'validate' function would do that, but it checks only the files Acronis knows of. It does not read the backup files which are 'unknown' to Acronis.
In other words: I have 4 system backup files, one for each week. I restore my system disk to one week ago and all of a sudden Acronis thinks that there are only 3 system backup files made. But the 4th (latest) backup file is still present. How can I make Acronis reas and accept that 4th (newer) backup file again?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Steve, thanks for your suggestion! It certainly makes sense and would have been a good solution for me if I did not have performed the system rollback already.
It is a pity that Acronis has not recognized this problem way earlier (or has not solved it properly). Technically it should be possible to rebuild the version information from the present files.
Meanwhile I have been busy to make all my other backup task work properly again. It is amazing to see how many do not work properly anymore. My task for email backup has lost direction completely. No way to delete the backups from the Acronis Restore calender, it keeps telling me that it cannot find the file. Looks like I have to delete every backup task and delete also manually all the backup files (because Acronis won't allow me anymore) and recreate the backup task again from scratch.
This isn't the first time that Acronis struggles with good backup files but just cannot handle the adminstration properly.
Anyway, thanks for your help, Steve!

Do you have a more recent backup image that you could copy these files from to a temporary folder?

Steve, when I ran into trouble I had to take action and get backups working asap. As a consequence I had to clean up most of the old backup files.
if I knew then what I know now I could have taken the proper actions.
I still miss my old TI version from many years ago, where I could rename and delete backup files manually without disturbing the operation of TI. I had my own scripts for full and incremental backup which never failed.
