Missing Folder In Image Backup

Thread needs solution

I completed a successfully validated image backup and then looked through the files with Windows Explorer. I discovered there was a folder for My Documents under my own user stuff, but nothing within that folder was backed up. Everything else looked OK, including My Music, My Pictures, etc. Anyone else out there that encountered a similar problem? Makes you wonder what else is missing that you don't know enough to look for.

Did you change the location of your My Documents folder? Right click on that folder, choose properties, go to the location tab. What is the location? Is the location included in your backup?

Hi there - thanks for the reply. This was my initial image backup attempt and I didn't change any folder locations before or after. It's not related to any incremental or synchronization activity. The My Documents folder in the backup is in the correct location under Users per the actual location on my C: drive, but none of the sub-folders that should be there are included - it's empty. I'm going to do a second backup to see if the same thing happens again.

backpacker2004,

If you want your backup to be able to be used for a recovery of your disk or a recovery to a new disk, the best type backup to have is a disk & partition backup and choose the "disk mode" option. This type option enables you to select the disk as the source and automatically all partitions (including non-lettered partitions) will be included in the backup. Using this method, nothing from the disk is left out and you have the benefit of a complete recovery.

Of course, if its on a completely different disk, then you would need to include two disks.

OK...my problem. There is a folder under my user ID named Documents and one named My Documents. My data is backed up fine under the Documents folder. Not sure where the My Documents folder (the one that's empty) comes from. I just realized in the backup, the Music and Pictures folders (which are backed up OK) didn't say My Music, etc. Thanks for your time.
