Missing Log Entries

Thread needs solution

TI does a FULL image backup on Tues, Thurs, Sat. I have it set so that no more than 3 full sets are saved. I now have 3 versions. But in the Log, only one backup is listed. I know I have 3 full backups because I was amount to mount them and look at files, and each set shows up in Explorer. The calendar in the Log also has no markings on the dates of backup one and two, as though no backups had occurred. Where are the log entries for backups one and two? I wanted review the Log entries to see how long each backup took.

Thanks for any help you can give.

David,
Depending upon how you are looking at the logs. if you click to view the log file from the gui, when looking at the listing of date and times of each log, note in the upper left corner there are 3 options on what is to be displayed. Make sure all 3 are highlighted--or click each option individually so you can see the different listings of good or with errors, etc.

Another option is look at the log folder when viewed in Windows Explorer. Within explorer, you can look at each log file via notepad.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delay in responding. Although I thought I had checked the box to be notified when a reply was made, I was not notified.

I have 3 current backups. All show up in Explorer. Only two now show in the Log. I tried to look at a log file for the missing backup, but it is not in the directory with the other files. While in TI, when I look at the log and calendar, the "missing" backup does not show on the calendar, but I can in fact mount the missing backup. And, yes, I pressed all the buttons while in TI log, so I could see everything. It ain't there.

Also: I drilled down in Program Data/Acronis/TruImage Home/Logs ... to find the log files, I did not find a log for the missing backup.

Bottom line: a backup for June 28, 2012 exists; I can mount it. It does not show up in the TI calendar or in the list of backups in TI.

More info: Today, although I made full backups on 7/29, 7/30 and 7/3, only the backup of 7/3 is shown in the backup list in the Log and on the Log calendar.

David

I assume you meant 6/29 and 6/30. Go to the top options and made sure the display is set to all--not today only.

Yes, I did mean June and not July for the first two. Sorry. And yes, I have set the display for ALL each time I checked the log and I checked it again and again in response to your emails.

GroverH,

Since my last entry, there have been 3 more backups and all of them show in the Log and on the calendar. This make it even more mysterious that previous entries disappeared.

David

Look directly into the log file via Windows Explorer and see what you find there. The log file is at this path in XP.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\

I use Windows 7, so the path was C:\Program Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs.

As I mentioned earlier, my last 3 backups are the only ones showing in the Log List and the Calendar in TI, and the missing images have been erased as part of the cleaning process. There are no entries relating to the now-erased images in the Log Directory shown above. So I can't get any info about the images that existed before they were "cleaned." I copied the text of one of the logs for a current image:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>

I don't know what this means. In the on-board Log, you can see each step in the imaging.

Thanks for your help, GroverH. I may have to wait until it happens again, but perhaps it won't!

David

David,

The XML code you show is a standard header for XML viewers so they know which version and text encoding system is being used, the logging part should appear after that - if that is all you see and no other entries, then this is your missing log file and you might as well delete it as it's not going to tell you anything other than the logging system failed for some reason during this task.

Back to square one! Pls see 6/29/2012 message above that describes my settings for backup.

I now have three full backups. However neither the Log or the calendar shows the first two backups; only the last one shows. However, I know I have 3 backups because they are listed in Explorer directory and I have been able to mount an image that doesn't exist in the Log or calendar. So it seems to me this is a bug in TI.

Would appreciate any help.

David

David,

Are you running any kind of "cleanup" tool on your system, (like CCleaner for example)?

You can try this. Click on the cog wheel in upper right corner and select "View Log File"
In upper middle, change both Time Period and Event service both to "All"

Toggle (on/off) the 3 display options in upper left corner and see if you can get the missing logs to be displayed.

If the above not successful, close TI and open Windows Explorer.
Search for and browse to the Windows folder where the logs are stored.
In XP, this could be
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\

In Win7-64, you may find them here
C:\Users\All Users\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\

Assuming that you can determine the dates of the logs,
use Notepad and open some of the logs to see if you can find the missing logs,

Grover H and James F, thanks for your replies.

Grover, I found the log directory an files corresponding to the missing log entries, but the entries seem incomplete.

James F., yes, I do use CCleaner. As you did not indicate why you were asking that question and what CCleaner has to do with my problem, I began exploring. I noticed for 1st time that one of the programs CCleaner cleans is True Image. I unchecked the box so that CCleaner won't bother TI. Meantime, my log now shows an image for today and last Tuesday. I think I did a CClean on Monday that might be what wiped my log entries. I ran CCleaner after unchecking the TI box and my log entries were untouched.

Thanks to you both. I think the problem is solved.

David

CCleaner's list of applications that it "cleans" usually refers to purging logs and recently-opened files history.

Yes, I see that now. I checked this morning and found that my last 3 backups were properly recorded in the log. I've changed CCleaner to leave Acronis alone.

Thanks for your help.
