Missing some drives
I'm using acronis home 2009 with win7 64 bit. I have 5 internal drives including the system drive. When I boot up with the CD I only see 3 of the drives which I can backup to.
I'd like to clone the system drive but when I put a new empty drive into the hot swappable bay it doesn't show up in Acronis. The empty drive shows up under disk managment in windows and "my computer" just fine.
Anyone have this problem?

I downloaded the file but I'm not sure what to do with it. I ran it on the computer and made another bootable CD but still no joy.
Can you be more specific with what to do with that .exe file I downloaded (TrueImage2009.9809_s_en.exe)

You need to download the bootable media file, an ISO image file (on the Bootable Media tab). The file you got is the installation file for the whole package - not what you want. Once you download the ISO image file (with .iso extension) you have to burn it to a CD with a package capable of handling ISO image files. Don't just burn the file as a file, it must be burned as an image.

Jim,
The file has to be burnt to CD as an image file. Click on my signature index below and check item 2-G. For my own use, I find that ImgBurn works very well and it is free for personal use.
Before you attempt your clone, take a few safety precautions and create a full disk backup of the master drive before cloning.
In theory, there should be no risk in cloning as the source disk is only read. In practice, however, there has been far too many postings of something going wrong during the process. Sometimes it is the operator choosing the wrong disk and cloning the blank onto the master; other times, the power fails during the process; at other times, the computer freezes and the the drive is lost. Simply stated, why take the risk of cloning when it takes on a few minutes longer to do the restore and the master disk is not even connected.

ok, thanks, I downloaded the iso file and burned it to cd using Roxio. Still didn't see two of the 5 internal drives with that bootable CD. Did it not work? or is Roxio not a image file burner? If so, what software will burn it for me. Thanks for you help folks.

If the CD booted and you used it to look at your tree structure, then it worked.
Are are the drives "basic" or are some "dynamic"? If dynamic, this presents another issue.

ok, I give up. :) What is the difference between a basic drive and a dynamic drive? I have one seagate drive and a western digital drive that Acronis is not seeing. Thanks.

Open Windows Disk Management
(Right click on the MYComputer icon or shortcut and select the Manage option. Then select the Disk Management option.
Look at the graphical view of your drives and see how they are described--ie basic or dynamic. Google for more info.
You may still need an even newer set of drivers for your missing drives. If all your drives are basic, then send send a private message to the Acronis support moderator pointing to this link and advise them of with the information about the missing drives.

It turns out whether acronis sees the drives or not is dependent on which drive I put into the 4 drive bay top two slots. I see the C drive (top slot) and the slot below it plus 1 internal drive not in the hot swappable bay. The bottom two bays Acronis does not see (it's a 4 drive bay). That's real interesting. Maybe there is a setting in the bios like the boot up order where I need to add the last two drives.
I checked and all my drives are basic. I'll send a pm. Thanks.

Hello Jim, GroverH and Gary!
Thank you for finding time to contact us via Forum and report about the issue! And many thanks to GroverH and Gary for their kind assistance!
Jim, Andy B just forwarded to me your message. I can see that you've already done a great job: tried downloadable bootable media and checked whether it detects the drive by changing the slots. That helps to localize the issue greatly, thank you!
The problem was caused by recognising the second slot by our kernel, on which the bootable media is built. We can try new media built on alternative loader. I've just forwarded it to you via PM. Could you please check whether it resolves the problem?
Should it fail to help, please provide me with the following diagnostic information:
- Acronis Info from Windows from problem machine
- Acronis Report from Windows from problem machine
- Acronis Linux Report from the bootable media provided
- Screenshot of Windows Disk Management
This will help me to localize the problem and find an appropriate solution for it.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!
