Move Some Data to Another Computer

Thread needs solution

Hi,

New to ATIH 2012 (family pack).

1. Should I uninstall Ghost 14 or can I leave it on in case I need access to an older backup?

2. Would like to move part of the data from one computer to another. I assume a backup (selecting the folders) and restore on the other computer is the way to do this?

Thanks, Tom

You should uninstall Ghost 14 to avoid any conflict between low level drivers (I am not sure there will be one).

Yes, if you just want to move data, simply do what you suggest, or... simply copy the files onto a USB disk and copy them back to the other computer. Backing up and restoring is not the fastest way to move data around...

Thanks, I'll uninstall Ghost. I'm moving approx 50 gb data. A while back, I tried copying a lot of data to a USB external HD and the copy process failed. Since then, I've been using another syncing software to sync the main data storage to a second internal HD (as a backup) (I also backup to the cloud and to external HD's). This time, I want to move data from one computer to another and don't need the fastest method, but rather a reliable method. With ATIH 2012 (family pack) I can install it on both computers and backup on one and restore on the other.

Thanks, Tom

Consider using the free Replicator program which does a really great job. It provides details about which files failed, etc and many forum users have highly recommended.

I've used Microsoft's free SyncToy for file-based synching, updating, copying. It works well, and is a nice adjunct to my full disk imaging with ATI.
