Moving from BIOS to UEFI

Thread needs solution

Hi, I'm contemplating moving my 64 bit windows 8 system from a BIOS based motherboard to a UEFI motherboard. The OS drive is MBR. I have disk director 11, which says it can convert a drive from MBR to GPT. I also have the plus pack so I should be able to do the dissimilar hardware restore.

I've read on this forum that I should be able to restore my os drive from my bios system to my UEFI system. But then I've read that UEFI systems require GPT for the boot drive.

So my question is, does anyone know if windows 8 will freak out if the disk it is on is converted to GPT?

Thank you,
Ben

To do this transition, I would backup the partition containing Windows8, convert the disk to GPT, install Windows 8 clean (that will create the right boot records, partitions, etc. on the GPT disk). After WIndows 8 boots correctly, restore the C:\ on top of the newly installed C:\. Restart the computer. You might have to repair the startup of the computer and reactivate Windows 8.
You don't need to use Universal restore since it is not a dissimilar hardware (your disk controller doesn't change).
