Multiple computer backup scheme

Thread needs solution

I am looking for a scheme to back up three computers on three portable drives. On Wednesday, I want to take Monday's drive off-site, have Tuesday's drive on-site with a good back up, and have Wednesday's drive ready to back up tonight. I was thinking of backing all three computers up each night or every other night. I get confused when I change destination drives. If computer A has a full backup on each destination drive (different days) can I make an incremental the next time that drive is plugged in and would Acronis restore properly regardless of the days where backups were made? Otherwise, should I just make a new full every time eash computer comes up for back up? I know this is confusing, which is why I am asking, I guess. Any suggestions will be apprecialted.

Basically, you set up each of the 3 computers with 3 tasks- or 9 tasks total. Each task is totally independant of all the other tasks.

-----------------------------------------

First, name each storage disk a color such as eiher red or  blue or green (3 arbitrary names) and each task needs its own storage folder.

Computer 1:

Task 1 would be created with the red disk attached.    Storage Folder=  Red-cpu1

Task 2 would be created with the blue disk attached.   Storage Folder=  Blue-cpu1

Task 3 would be created with the green disk attached. Storage Folder=  Green-cpu1

----------------------------------------------

Computer 2:

Task 1 would be created with the red disk attached.    Storage Folder=  Red-cpu2

Task 2 would be created with the blue disk attached.   Storage Folder=  Blue-cpu2

Task 3 would be created with the green disk attached. Storage Folder=  Green-cpu2

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Computer 3:

Task 1 would be created with the red disk attached.    Storage Folder=  Red-cpu3

Task 2 would be created with the blue disk attached.   Storage Folder=  Blue-cpu3

Task 3 would be created with the green disk attached. Storage Folder=  Green-cpu3

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any backup scheme could be either full or full with Incremental or full with differeential.

The 1st time the red disk is attached, the backup type for backup #1 would be a full backup as configured for red Backup #1.

the 2nd time the red disk is attached, the backup type for backup #2 would be whatever type the backup scheme is configured as for red backup #2.

the 3rd time the red disk is attached, the backup type for backup #3 would be whatever type the backup scheme is configured as for red baackup #3

--------------------------------

The 1st time the blue disk is attached, backup type for backup #1 would be a full backup as configured for blue Backup #1.

the 2nd time the blue disk is attached, backup type for backup #2 would be whatever type the backup scheme is configured as for blue backup #2.

the 3rd time the blue disk is attached, backup type for backup #3 would be whatever type the backup scheme is configured as for blue baackup #3

-----------------------------

The 1st time the green disk is attached, backup type for backup #1 would be a full backup as configured for green task Backup #1.

the 2nd time the green disk is attached, backup type for backup #2 would be whatever type the backup scheme is configured as for green  task backup #2.

the 3rd time the green disk is attached, backup type for backup #3 would be whatever type the backup scheme is configured as for green task backup #3

-------------------------------------

Backup Day 1 is Red Disk Day & first backup is always a full backup for any task.

Backup Day 2 is Blue disk day & first backup  is always a full backup for any task.

Backup Day 3 is green disk day & first backup is always a full backup for any task.

Day 4 is Red disk Day and the 2nd backup for the red disk and backup type will be as configured with the Red task.

Day 5 is Blue Disk Day and the 2nd bakup for the blue disk and backup type will be as configured with the Blue task.

Day 6 is green disk day and the 2nd backp for the green disk and backup type will be as configured with the green task.

Day 7 is Red disk Day and the 3rd backup for the red disk and backup type will be as configured with the Red task.

Day 8 is Blue Disk Day and the 3rd backup for the blue disk and backup type will be as configured with the Blue task.

Day 9 is green disk day and the 3rd backup for the green disk and backup type will be as configured with the green task.

Day 10 is Red disk Day and the 4th backup for the red disk and backup type will be as configured with the Red task.

Day 11 is Blue Disk Day and the 4th backup for the blue disk and backup type will be as configured with the Blue task.

Day 12 is green disk day and the 4th backup for the green disk and backup type will be as configured with the green task.

To be continued--each backup day has its own matching task color. Pre-configured backup scheme controls type of backups.

--------------------------------------------------

Once you begin creating backups, no changes to the task. Changes cause unexpected results.

Take your time and get all the setttings correct befoe starting first backup.

Custom Backup Scheme Discussion--extract

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.
