Need Backup Config help
Need settings to setup backups to do 1 Full backup each week then 6 incremental backups. Thus giving me 7 days I can restore back to. I have the capacity to keep 2 weeks of backups using th 1 full / 6 incremental strategy.
When I set it up this way, the application is not cleaning up backups after the 2nd week has completed. Thus once a month I am running into Capacity issues on my backup drive where I am having to manually delete old backups.
Can someone advise how my backups should be setup to accomplish what I would like to do? If there is a best practice method that is better than my approach, pelase advise of this as well.
Thanks!

Just the the inc strategy. You'll get a full for the first backup and then incs up to the limit.

Carey,
I don't think there is anything wrong with your strategy. I believe what Scott is saying is use an incremental strategy. The first will be a full. Then 6 incrementals. Now select create a new full version after [6] incremental versions This gives you the new full on every 7th task run.
Now select store no more than [2] recent version chanis. I'm not sure if this is what you've already tried unsuccessfully? If so, check your logs as I suggested previously. This should give you insight as to why clean up is not deleting previous chains properly.

Carey,
To store 2 weeks of backups you need enough space for *3* fulls, not 2, *and* 2 set of incrementals. The reason is that ATI will always complete a new full before deleting any older full, or full+partial backup chains:
- Backup
- Backup2 (partial)
- Backup...
- Backup7 (last partial)
Then ATI starts a new chain:
- Backup(1)
- Backup(1)2 (partial)
- Backup(1)...
- Backup(1)7 (last partial)
THen ATI does the first full of the 3rd chain:
- Backup(2)
THen ATI erases the first chain, and continues the 3rd chain...

Here is one suggestion. Leave the 6 as is for your 6 incrementals and change the 4 to 1.
After the 7th backup (1+6), a second full will be created and once the 2nd full is verified, then the prior 7 will be deleted. So you need space for 2nd creation before the 7 is deleted. Then it will repeat with another 6 incs ,etc.
