Need help cloning HDD with Acronis 11 (Linux OS )
After I follow the prompts to clone a hdd manually and all is straight forward until i get this warning
You are about to change parameters of some LINUX partition.
If this is not a bootable partition, click OK to continue.
If this is a bootable partition, you will need to perform some actions to make it bootable after the partitioning operations. Please be sure you have your Linux boot diskette before clicking the OK button.
In order to make this partition bootable again after partitioning operations are complete, you should:
- Insert the Linux boot diskette into the floppy drive;
- Boot your computer from the Linux boot diskette and login as root;
- If you use ASPLoader as the Linux loader, type /sbin/aspldr
- If you use LILO as the Linux loader, type /sbin/lilo
- If you use a different Linux loader, please follow the instructions as described in the man pages of your loader.
- Reboot your computer and you will be able to boot your Linux again.
This is a Linux Server and it must boot up after Clone or Image has been created !
1. Is Acronis Refering to the destination HDD as not being bootable in which case I should try to create an Image of HDD to external HDD ?
2. Do I Require better Version of Acronis to preform Clone or Can I Create a Image of this HDD as I only require a backup to external USB Hdd
Any help many thanks Linux OS not my area of Expetise

I also have been looking for cloning software for a Linux server. The problem with using Acronis Backup and Recovery Server for Linux in my case is that it costs more than the entire server is worth. If I was going to use it many times then it might be a good value, but for a one off cloning to a larger disk that I will never do again, the cost is prohibitive. Are there any other more affordable Acronis solutions to this issue?

Paddy,
Hello, not sure this will work for you but..... http://clonezilla.org/ check this out . With "CloneZilla" you can backup and restore Linux EXT 3,4 etc. Only sectors with "Data". Have used this many times myself . It has a basic GUI but has an "Advanced User Option" I use "Basic user" Regards Fred
