New Samsung 256GB SSD Restore

Thread needs solution

Good Morning,

I installed my new 256GB Samsung 830 into my Lenovo ThinkPad W520 yesterday and, although it appears to be performing just fine, I do have some questions. I backed up the entire 160 GB Intel SSD to and external drive using Acronis True Image Home 2012. I then installed the 830, booted using the Acronis recovery disk, and restored the backup to the 830. The laptop booted up without a single hiccup and passed all the diagnostic tests I could throw at it. (Lenovo, Si Sandra, Samsung SSD Magician, etc.) However, rather than seeing the full 256 GB, drive C: shows 1.17GB IFS / 212.22 GB Unallocated / 108.45 GB IFS & D: shows 25.08 GB in the Samsung SSD Magician Over Provisioning panel. Windows Explorer likewise shows drives C: & D: at 108 GB & 25 GB respectively. Does anyone know why so much unallocated space? Thanks in advance.

Respectfully submitted,

Bert

It is because you restored the entire disk. Your result is what you would have gotten if you had cloned the disk "as is".
Go to Windows disk management (right click on the computer icon on your desktop, choose manage, storage, disk management).
Look at your disk layout.
If the C:\system partition is the last to the right before the unallocated space, right click on it and choose expand.

You can also use a disk partition manager to adjust the size your partition. Do not change the original size of any partition except the C:\system partition or any partition you created yourself.

You can also correct the problem by repeating the restore but with some changes.
