new windows 7 disk, don't want it screwed up, couple (experienced user) questions
used trueimage for many years.
up through 11, it worked. (for me)
at 2009, version, downhill
anyway, I have gone through forums, couple questions of clarification.. I hve also just wasted TWO DAYS of my life with this simple WINDOWS 7 install (programs, reload, reboot, reload, reboot, etc), but we'll leave that rant alone. I do NOT want to do more beta testing with a backup program, did enough of it with 11 and 2009
I have toshiba tablet, had vista, i bought new hard drive, installed windows 7 clean install.
I am using TI 11 (bootable cd) to back up. I have licence for 2010, but do not want to install yet..
QUESTION
is 2010, on bootable CD, reliable for backup for windows 7 (and for restore)?
QUESTION
IF I install 2010, WHAT can I delete/turn off/etc, so that I have a SIMPLE backup program, just to do full backups, and view images, NO automatic stuff, NO junk running in background, etc? I read couple posts about deleting the START items, but I don't want other services, etc, running either, except when I do the backup
QUESTION
any luck, by otehrs, with alternative software other than Ghost (I used to use driveImage, fantastic, norton bought it, turned to ghost, downhill, it will take me a long time to regain confidence in it or its marketing..)

1. As you are aware, the rescue CD uses Linux, therefore it is not possible to answer your question 100% reliably unless there is someone else with the exact same model from the exact same production run, and even then, it is possible from a hardware point of view for a different component - hard drive or chip maker to appear mid run.
The only way to negate the Linux problem is to use either BartPE or Windows PE environments. If you've registered your copy of TI2010 then you could download the ISO version from your account, burn it to a rewritable CD and test at least the ability for it to recognise your system and make an image. Obviously to test restore there is only one way to test that 100%.
2. There are exactly the same services used in 2010 as v11 with the addition of AFCDPSRV.exe which is the service that runs NSB. This is installed but not started unless you actually set up NSB.
The scheduler2 service has to run to allow you to even make a manual image or backup in TI. If you intend to only use the Rescue CD to make images then all TI services can be stopped.
3. I would say a German company was actually a main competitor to Acronis from within the home environment, just not as well known. They do use a Windows PE based rescue disk, which also has interesting side effects when misunderstanding a poor German to English translation, screen text. It is also slightly slower than TI and has slightly larger resultant image files.
