Newbie step-by-step guide?

Thread needs solution

Folks - please bear with me. I took advantage of the 'Halloween' offer - True Image and Laplink's PCMover - as I have a PC to upgrade from XP to Win7, and want to avoid re-installing all the applications.

So I've got True Image installed, registered etc. And I plan on using PCMover (part of the package) to restore everything once I've done the OS upgrade. What I'm not sure about is what set of options I need to select to make the image in the first place, and how I validate that image - how do I check, before I wipe XP by installing Win7, that the image contains all I will need. And if the second part of the process fails for any reason, will the True Image image I've got be sufficient to restore an unchanged working XP environment?

I've read much of the documentation. And if it contains a specific step-by-step guide for this, then I've missed it. Please point me in the right direction! And thanks for your patience.

I'd be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has done what I'm doing telling me how succesful it was.

YOu need to do a disk and partition backup: when you set up the backup, switch to disk mode, then select the disk that contains the system. You can do the backup from the recovery CD or from Windows. The same for validation.

If you restore to another PC, you will need the Universal Restore function that come with the premium version. Universal Restore is pretty reliable, but it is not ultra easy like a regular backup and restore on the same machine.

If you have the installers of your apps, you could simply reinstall everything. You'd have a clean install. You can try the UR path though!
