Newly-installed program will not back up

Thread needs solution

I upgraded to 2012 in order to use live tech support. After two weeks, that's not going so well.

I have a folder on my desktop that contains a single file, which file contains a single sentence. I choose "File Backup" and put checks in the boxes for that folder and that file. Then I tell it to backup to the D: drive and hit "Backup now."

It says "One minute" remaining and asks for me to insert "the first media." I do so. It pauses for what seems like a long time, then D: spins up. The "time remaining" goes to "two minutes" then "three" all the way up to "Seven minutes." The CD drive spins for several minutes, then pops open. The screen asks me to insert "the second media."

All I can think of is that my program must be corrupt. I bought it on optical media. Maybe that version is not corrupt. Is there any way to keep Acronis from automatically downloading the most recent build?

By default, when you select a file backup in 2012, your documents folder is selected. In addition to the folder you have selected, 2012 is also backing up your documents folder. That is why you are seeing the request for more than 1 disk. Be sure to expand the selections list to remove the default selection.
You can turn off the feature to automatically check for updates by selecting the ? (help) button at the top right of the main screen, and selecting check for updates. There is an option there to turn the auto check feature off.
Be sure to register your serial number online, it is a good idea to download the latest build and install it.

Thank you, James F ! Your information solved the problem.

Do you know if it is possible to permanently turn off the default that automatically selects the documents folder?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to turn off that default selection. Just remember to uncheck the documents folders when you create a new backup, if needed.
