No auto-update or update alert function?

Thread needs solution

I wandered around the various buttons, settings, and features in ATI2012 but I have to find where it has an auto-update or update alert feature. There isn't one? I'm supposed to remember to occasionally go to the Acronis web site to check if there is a newer version?

Or is having an account at Acronis how they handle new version alerts? Do they automatically e-mail me when there is a new version?

By default it's on. Settings can be changed under Help (?) orb in upper right corner of main panel.

You can turn auto update on or off and I strongly recommend Off. It is much safer with ATI to uninstall an existing version or build before installing a new one and the auto-update feature doesn't do this. For example, for a lot of folks, going from build 6131 to 6154 proved critically troublesome unless they uninstalled 6131 first.

Updates are rare, usually two per version inside of one year. Then it's on to the next Version and no more updates will be made for the prior version.

The one place I didn't look for a user-configurable setting: the Help menu. Doh!

Actually I would MUCH prefer an auto-check function, not an auto-update function. I disable auto-update in Windows and every app that has it. I only want to be alerted when there is a new update, not pushed at me. I want to know there is an update available but I'll pick when I want to get around to actually installing the update.

Does the "Automatically check for updates at start":
- Prompt me BEFORE applying an update?
- If I get a prompt, can I cancel so I do NOT update at that time?
- If I elect to not update now, will I get prompted again later?
- Does "at start" mean ATI2012 only checks when I load it? Does it check when I load the GUI or does it mean when the background process and services for it get loaded? That is, does it check when I load the GUI or when Windows starts and I login?

It's an auto-check function, not an auto-update function. That's why the menu item is called "check for updates".
You will only get prompted, the update will not applied automatically.
You have the option to download and install the update or simply close the notification window.
You will get prompted again later (everytime you restart the software) if you do not deselect "Automatically check for updates at startup".
"At start" means it checks when you load the GUI.

Thanks for the information. Good to know I get notified rather than a silent update.
