No Indication of Recovery Progress. How Can This Be?

Thread needs solution

Western Digital Version

I am in emergency recovery process after major computer infection. Acronis doesn't even advise of progress of restore. Am I missing something? Or is there a way to track recovery procedure progress?

The Progress indicator is something that was never a strong point for ATI. I think the WD version is stripped down version. You could try doing a small backup and restore to ensure that ATI is working on your machine then use the disk activity indicator, present on most PCs, to ensure that restore activity is occuring on the larger backup.

Can you make a bootcd and use that for restore?

I have boot CDs from when I had Acronis 10. At least one I tried is not working. I got hit with Adware and my computer is screwed up badly. A lot of stuff is not working.

I will continue to try to get a recovery.

An ATI 10 boot cd isn't going to work on an ATI2011 backup. I don't know which version of ATI is in the WD version but if you acquired it recently it's probalby newer than ATI 10. Is there no bootcd from the WD version?

If you've kept a history of backups, you might want to go to the oldest one first or a reasonbly old one and restore that, just to get back in action. then it's jsut an issue of guessing how recent a backup you can use before you get all the wonkiness.

If you otherwise think that program is working, I wouldn't worry so much about the progress indicator. Allow about 1 minute per GB or about 3 times that or so if this is a laptop and a usb drive is involved.
