No partitions found?

Thread needs solution

Hello.

I recently formatted and re-installed Windows 8 on my laptop. On the bootable copy of True Image, looking at the "What to back up" tab, it says "No items to display". I haven't used True Image much, but shouldn't I see my partitions there?

When I go to "My Data" and look at the folders, I see something strange:

Recovery (C:)
NO NAME (D:)
Local Disk (E:)
CD Drive (F:)

Yet when I boot up normally, I see my C: drive with my installation of Windows 8, like I should.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Suggest that you immediately assign a name to your Win8 disk.
From within Windows Explorer,
Right Click on Drive C your system disk and under the properties
assign a name such as
Win8sys_C

Yes, you should be seeing whatever partitions which are a part of your system disk. It should list the same partitions as shown in the Windows Disk Management Display graphical view. Perhaps this is a Win8 issue, maybe some of the other Win8 users can comment.

Confirm that you are using the 2013 version of TrueImage.

Hi, GroverH. Thanks for responding.

I am definitely using the brand new version of True Image 2013. Just bought it yesterday.

I will rename that folder as soon as I get back to my device, but that shouldn't make a difference, should it?

NO, the renaming is a safety precaution to prevent you choosing the wrong partition when doing a partition restore.

Okay, the hard drive is renamed, but I'm at a loss why I don't see any partitions to back up. (The drive works perfectly.)

Does anyone have any idea? I can't use True Image at this point.

Brian,
Are you only getting this problem from the recovery CD or from within Windows as well?

Is this a retail Acronis CD you are using or one made by the program?

Colin,

I don't see any problems within Windows. It works perfectly.

I don't have a retail CD... I bought online. This is a bootable disk I made with Acronis.

Does this tell you anything useful? Thanks for trying to help.

Brian,

The recovery media has no problem booting your system and loading True Image, it just sees no disks correct?

You aren't running a RAID of any sort, what external drive are you using to store images and how does it connect - Firewire/USb/NAS etc?

No, no raid. This is just a standard laptop with a single hard drive inside. (Not even an SSD.) I haven't been able to store any images yet because I can't get past the part where it can't find any partitions. I could repartition it, but since I don't know the problem, I am afraid it will just happen again.

If I get it to recognize the partitions, I will probably store the images on a USB drive.

Brian,

It sounds like either a Linux driver problem or there is some hardware in your laptop that is confusing Linux. As you are within your 30 day support period I think raising a support ticket is in order.

Does 2013 on the recovery CD actually see the disk as a complete disk?

I don't suppose you are able to take some camera phone shots and post them here?

As you have Windows 8, you didn't enable the Windows 8 storage spaces by any chance? Come to think of it W8 wouldn't have allowed that with just one drive available.

Is there an external hub or internal card reader attached to your laptop?

Is there any drive encryption activated at all?
