No Universal restore option while restoring Win7 from USB Flash, USB HDD

Thread needs solution

The problem is when I'm restoring my win7 from tib on my DVDR disk the Universal restore option is available. But the option is absent when I'm restoring from any USB drive or Partition on HDD. The tib arhive is absolutely similar corse it copied from my DVD several times. Why?

Also want to add that there is no such problem with my winxp arhive, only win7... (((

Hello NixoN Swift,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the Forum.

There are several reasons why Acronis Universal Restore is not prompted during the recovery.

I would appreciate if you could take a look at this article and let us know if you need additional help.

Thank you.

sorry but there is no solution in that article. the main problem is the same tib archive on the DVD shows universal restore option but on the usb drive or usual HDD partition - no. I must to add that the problem is only with win7, winxp is ok. I tried Acronis TIH 11 and 2013 also but still the same problem

Hi there,

Is there a chance that your Win 7 backup doesn't include an active partition?

That would be the case if you didn't include the system reserved partition in the backup, or if you have a multi-boot system and you backed up the Win 7 partition while the system uses the WinXP boot records.

We have seen the problem in the past when users are trying to use Universal restore on multi-boot systems.

"Is there a chance that your Win 7 backup doesn't include an active partition?"
- no. as I said before, the absolutely same tib file of win7 system partition recorded to DVDR disk shows Restore Option (RO) but while it copied to USB Flash or USB HDD it does not. You can try it and see. I'm an Administrator and mostly every day I have to restore partitions. It's very difficult to burn DVD every time you create backups
