'Non-stop backup is turned off'
I think this is a well-worn lament but in case anyone has an answer...... My True Image 2010 Nonstop Backup refuses to stay switched on. When I turn the computer on the Nonstop backup icon appears in the notification area of the taskbar and when I move the cursor over it it says "Nonstop backup is turned on. Preparing to back up". But then a few seconds later it says Nonstop backup is turned off". If I rightclick on the icon and "Start" I get a popup saying "Nonstop backup is turned on" but after a second or two another popup says "Nonstop backup is turned off". The same thing happens if I try to turn it on with the True Image Home > Backup > Nonstop Backup button. It turns on for a second and then immediately turns off. Also if I right click the Nonstop Backup icon in the tray and select Browse, the Nonstop Backup window that appears says ‘No data to display’ , ‘File or folder has been changed’, ‘Local file or folder has been deleted’, ‘File or folder has not been backed up completely’. There is also a pop-up error message saying ‘Cannot read from storage’.
If I look in the Nonstop backup window everything look OK :
Protected partitions: C:
Storage for nonstop backups: Expansion Drive (J:)
Used space: 19.57 GB Nonstop backups 11.34 GB Available space 434 GB
If I look in the J drive, the Time Explorer folder contains a subfolder starting 7CF4BA……… which contains 12 cdp.data files, 1 image.data file, and 1 cdp.metadata file totalling 11.3 GB. The most recent is dated 27 August.
The build number of my version is 7,046.
(I've just discovered that Acronis only give support for 30 days. Though they do invite me to pay for help for this product which doen't work.)

I used previous versions of this software on my main computer which had an SSD, I always had defragmentation disabled. The moment I tried Nonstop backup the service crashed. I ended up never using it on that computer.
It was version; Acronis True Image 2010 Home.
I will try your suggestion in turning off the defragmentation service in Windows 8. I checked the defragment log in Windows 8 and found that in the one day after reimaging, at the pristine time when no such task was practice, Windows intrusively managed to sneak in a defragmentation task. Although I didn't enable Nonstop backup yet since the "Back up now" button is missing. So I could not observe anything.
I will report back on my findings but I am not enthusiastic. Acronis developers should be aware that most versions before Windows XP and all after contain Disk Defragment and all versions of Windows VISA and after come with it enabled by default. It seems like a trivial thing to miss.
I have been following this problem for the past 3 or 4 years. From my experience, the functions that do work in Acronis products are wonderful, if they work, use them and enjoy them but the ones that don’t work. Well, lets just say, don’t hold your breath. As I have observed a lot of people have been doing and stagnating, and not even considering other backup products because they think Acronis is going to fix it any day now for the past few years.
