non stop backup will not start

I have used 2010 for several years and recently the computer failed and the drive was reformatted. Using XP I recovered all the data from non stop backup.
I now want to restart non stop back up after cleaning out all data prior to the reformatting
I get an error message saying "Error occurred while creating the file"
I have tried establish alternative files etc on my drive F - which is a separate external drive for backups to no avail.
I would be pleased if someone could assist me in resolving the problem
