Nonstop backup - is alternating backup drives OK?

I would like to run nonstop backup from one laptop to two different hard drives, alternating once a week so that I can have a redundant off-site backup. Does anyone know if this works? Has anyone restored successfully from such a backup?

I don't know if it would work or not (I doubt it would), but it's not something I would recommend. In my opinion, it's much better to actually have "real" image backups to count on for restores.
