One of two external drive partitions allows Disk Backup, the other gives errors
Hello all... thanks in advance,
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with TIH 2012 Update 2.1 (build 7133).
I have been able to successfully make manual bu's of my computer's C: drive on one partition of a Western Digital My Passport USB 3 drive (500GB), but not on another.
During the bu attempt on the non-functioning partition a dialog window opens asking if i want to open a certain file from the partition that I'm trying to save to (I've turned this feature off numerous times but it still keeps opening, argh). Not sure why this is happening but it's just an additional issue.
The errors I get once the bu fails are these:
the specified file does not exist
Event code: 0x00040011+0x0000FFF0+0x80070002
and...
terminated by timeout
Event code: 0x013C0010
The only thing I have read that may be the cause is that I changed the drive letter (from E: to G:) before I started trying to make bu's. Does anyone know if I can make this second partition work without having to re-partition the drive? Also... I partitioned the drive (zeroed it out) within the Windows command prompt, not with the Acronis app.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It also may be a good idea to remove the old tasks that are failing from your Backup and Recovery tab. Do this by clicking on the gear icon on the right hand side of the task, select more, then remove from the list. Do not select "delete" as it will delete any backups associated with the task.

Hi James,
Thanks for your suggestions. I changed the malfunctioning partition letter and I'm currently trying to make a disk bu to the "new" partition letter.
... ok so Acronis TIH gave me a window popup (that I've seen before when I tried to make disk bu's to the original partition letter) that says "the specified file does not exist" and prompts me to "retry", "browse", or "cancel". I don't know which file Acronis can't find, or what issue is causing this popup. I pressed cancel and the whole bu attempt was cancelled (not what I thought "cancel" meant in this case). Any ideas? - see screenshot below.
Thanks,
DL

Doggylama,
Try to create a completely new task. Make sure the destination is pointing at the right target partition.

Hi Pat,
I created a new task and pointed the destination towards the new partition.
Thanks so much, any other suggestions?

BTW,
I only changed the partition letter BEFORE I attempted any backups to the partition I'm trying to troubleshoot (I didn't make some backups and then change the partition letter then try to continue making backups).
Thanks to anyone who can help,
DL

Doggylama,
Can you post a screen capture of you Windows DisK Management screen?

Hey James,
Here's my disk management screen.
I am thinking that the real issue here is not necessarily the partition letter. I've realized that if I hit "retry" whenever Acronis tells me that "the specified file doesn't exist", the bu will continue. I've just completed a bu that way (to the partition with the new letter) - I had to hit retry about 6 or 7 times. What I still need to know though is: why is TIH telling me that there are files that don't exist?
Thanks SO much,
DL
