Online Backup won't connect, won't suspend without reboot

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2010, on Windows 7 Pro (x64). Online Backup appears to be doing nothing. It was working for a while, but in the last month or so whenever I hit "update backup" the status window comes up and never updates. When it's working I can see the current file and speed, and when it isn't working the status window is mostly blank. Lately it almost never works.

When I check the logs there is typically an error saying "Request timeout expired," usually less than a minute after the operation started. This is despite my having followed the Knowledge Base instructions and editing the config.xml to make the timeout 300 seconds.

On top of this, whether I suspend the operation from the status window, stop it from the "Tasks" window in TIH, or cancel it from the status-bar icon, the operation will not suspend. After any attempt to stop the operation, the status under Tasks still says "Running... Complete: 0%" and the "Update Backup" button under Online Backup is grayed out and says "Backing Up..."

The only way I've been able to stop the operation and try again is to reboot my whole computer. After several months I still do not have all of my data backed up online because of these problems. This is not acceptable. Please help.

Whereabouts in the world are you? Might give some clue as to the timeout or load on the server that you connect to.

What are you backing up, the complete disk or files and folders?

What size roughly are you trying to backup?
