Operations in Progress at Shutdown - Backup validation failed message at reboot!

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Just like the title says. Could not shut down for 15 minutes and later at reboot Acronis logs said that backup operation failed. Funny thing is that I had not scheduled any backups. Seems to keep a list of all the backups and try to update them I think. So I deleted each item in the backup menu. Hope that doesn't mess anything up, but how do you turn off background backup processes from taking place?

Thank you.

David,

Have you actually made an image or backup?

Do you have validation enabled which is enabled by default to start straight after a full image is made?

No backups happen in the bacground unless you have enabled Non Stop backup.

The scheduler does run in the background, but if you have no tasks, it shouldn't be trying to run backups.

Could you posta copy of your Acronis log?

Hi,

I attached a copy image of the logs. Last backup I made was to a usb drive a week ago. So probably non-stop backup and possibly validation enabled by default is the culprit?

Thanks.

David,

Judging by those file names something else might be wrong, unless you really did choose that filename.

First check what file name is stored on the USB drive, if it matches the one shown in the log or on the task name delete just the task, if it doesn't match the image name on the USB drive, delete the task and its'associated image.

Make sure you perform the deletion from within TIH otherwise the database will become confused.

Once all the tasks are deleted, perform a search for images with the USB drive attached, then edit the task and change the validation option.

Its a USB drive i put away when I was done using it. Seems like it may be looking for it but its no longer there. This default validation and background backups may be to blame but i cant verify as i deleted all the entries. Thing is version acronis home 2010 never behaved like this. This feature is not appreciated as a user you have no idea whats stalling your shut down randomly and for some can be frustrating. I was lucky to figure it out but less tech savy people with slower pcs will have their hard drive corrupted when theyre forced to manually shut their computers off. Not cool!

David,

Would you check what the file name looks like on the drive? The file name as it appears in the log is of the type normally assigned to temporary files that TIh makes when consolidating an archive. If somehow this has gone wrong then it is quire possible that TIH is trying to finish an internal part of the task.

Either way, deleting all the tasks should stop the problem.
