Possible problem with ATI 2013 on Alienware desktop
I posted related two threads last week. Briefly, we got a new Dell Alienware X51 desktop computer with Windows 7 (with 16 GB memory) about two weeks ago.
I have been trying to test backup and restore on x51. Eventually, I found that emergency boot disk created from ATI 2013 version allowed to boot the x51. The previous version of ATI version failed to boot it.
I made 5 backup files (tib) and verified with ATI 2013. All Tib files looked valid. Then, I tried to restore these tib within windows and also with boot disk. During restore step (after auto-reboot), I see a nice progress bar. After completion, it rebooted. The screen showed Windows requires repair. It tried to repair windows. It failed to repair windows. I tried then restore with the boot disk. The same results. All showed nice restore progress bar. When booted, it starts to repair Windows. I repeated all five backup files . Got the same results. Problem is not backing up or restore but booting windows.
Finally, I was forced to fresh install Windows and drivers with provided Win7 and Resources DVD. I have done backup and restore with ATI on Dell computers for about 10 years. This is the first time I encountered the failure.
It appears that ATI software conflicts with x51 desktop. I wish that Acronis software engineers look at x51 desktop.
BTW, my son owns several Alienware "Aurora" desktop computers. He emailed me that he did not have any problem with backup and restore with ATI on these computers.

Thanks for your comment.
ATI 2013 was purchased last Thu.
After reinstalling Win 7, x51 now runs super.
I wasted more than a week on this stuff. I do not wish to take a chance with Acronis for x51.
But ATI 2013 works just fine on all of my five other Dell computers.

Sometimes when Windows thinks it needs a repair it can be because the partition's 'active' flag has been disabled. This can happen occasionaly when restoring something that is non standard or just a hiccup happens.
If either using the Windows command prompt from a Windows install/repair CD or by booting into TI and looking for the c: partition. if they are there and the files contained wihtin look correct, it might just need the active flag enabling, this can be done from the Windows command line via 'diskpart' or using something like Acronis Disk Director or some other disk manipulation utility.

Jorge,
I would also be curious if this X51 computer involved happens to a have a GPT style partitioning?

I am very curious about x51 too. I have no idea about its system either.
I wonder whether these components caused the problem or not:
3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3330 (6M Cache, up to 3.0 GHz)
16GB (2 X 8GB) Dual Channel DDR3 up to 1600MHz
We do not do game at all. Alienware seems to be built for gaming purpose.
But I noticed that it was a very fast computer.
Installing Microsoft Office 2013 Pro Plus took just a or two minutes. That tells its speed.
After spending almost two days on the failed restore process, I am not inclined to mess it with Acronis any more.
I hope that Acronis releases a compatible ATI in near future.
