Prevent Auto Ejecting DVD on Backup Job
Dear all,
I have scheduled weekly backups on my DVD drive. I have also a PC chassis with a door protecting my drive from dust. When the backup time comes, the optical drive automatically ejects asking for a DVD do insert.
As the door is normally closed, the the DVD drive hits the door several repeatedly until it understands that there is an obstacle. This is neither good for my DVD drive nor for the chassis door.
Is there any solution or workaround how to disable this auto eject feature, please? I tried some software that disables automatic eject in general, but it had no effect on Acronis True Image 2013.
I would really like to know, how to solve this situation before my DVD drive crashes. I do not wish to have door all the time open. Thank you.
Kind regards,
Bunkai.

Hello Colin,
Thank you for your answer. To be honest I do not know 100% sure, whether the DVD drive is opened, even when a disc is inside. If I recall correctly, it gets opened only if not appropriate disc is inside. Acronis will ask for the correct disc. However, I use my DVD drive normally. I do not wish to reserve it for only one disc.
I wonder, if I am the only user having doors on my chassis? Is this not an issue for another Acronis users? Don't they mind, if the DVD crashes to their chassis door?
I believe, there must be workaround to this. I do not wish to destroy any of my hardware,.
Kind regards,
Bunkai

Your only solution to this problem would be to run the backups to your DVD drive manually (not schedule them), or backup to another type of target (i.e.: additional internal hard disk, USB flash drive, external disk, etc.). Acronis, as well as other applications that write to CD/DVD drives, often automatically open the DVD drawer when requesting media. In some applications, this can be controlled/disabled, but not in Acronis True Image.

Hi James,
Thank you for your response. Hmm.. is that so difficult to make this feature as optional in Acronis? I have seen posts, that requested this feature already for Acronis 2010 version. Why not to implement one check box in Acronis settings, which, when checked/enabled, will not eject the DVD drive.
I understand, you probably do not work for Acronis team so you will not know. This leads me to a conclusion, if it is guaranteed, that there is no solution to this problem. Maybe somebody knows how to disable DVD Autoeject functionality. Maybe Acronis team did not implement any switch within its settings, because there is a easy workaround to this?
I know, I might simply manually create backups, or backup to my HDD. Well, I backup to HDD, but I need backup to external media too. And I wish to use the advantage of Acronis jobs scheduling, because I need to have consistent database of backups.
Sorry, if I do not wish to give up. Maybe somebody knows, if there is a workaround, how to disable disc AutoEject from within Acronis. Any tips, any ideas, any solutions?
Thank you,
Bunkai.

It may not be a requirement that has ever been suggested. This is probably not a common user issue. (I've never heard it before.)

Hi Tuttle,
Not sure if it helps, but please, take a look at this thread: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/20450
My common sense tells me, that there will be people who prefer chassis with door and use Acronis. Then, if they schedule backups on disc, they will probably have such problems unless they do not mid, their DVD drive hits their doors for every backup job.
Is there any place, where to submit feature requests, please?
Kind regards,
Bunkai

Thank you James,
I will write them on both places.
However, if anyone has any idea how to prevent Acronis True Image 2013 from ejecting Disc Drive on backup job, it would definitely help not only me but others as well.
Kind regards,
Bunkai
