Problem Backing Up A Mapped Drive--Multiple Connections to a Server by The Same User Are Not Allowed

Thread needs solution

I am trying to back up a mapped drive. I am on my desktop and trying to back up a mapped drive that is on my server. I select the folder, and set credentials (I enter the user name and password that is appropriate). BUT when I try to run the task it fails: "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user using more than one user name are not allowed."

I tried to set up a new user in the Active Directory, and used that user info when I would Set Credentials...but I received the same error message.

HELP!

Steve

Steve,

I'm not sure if this is the cause of the problem but, True Image prefers UNC addressing rather than mapped drives.

Suggest you try UNC and see if the problem still remains.

Hello,

Colin, thanks for your suggestion.

Steven, let me assist you further. This is a Windows issue (according to Microsoft KB). To fix it, please do the following:

  • Use the IP address of the remote server when you try to connect to the network share.
  • Create a different Domain Name System (DNS) alias for the remote server, and then use this alias to connect to the network share.

After you use one of these methods, you can use different user credentials to connect to the network share. In this situation, the computer behaves as if it is connecting to a different server.

Please reply to this thread if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.
