Problems with backing up of Windows PCs to a NAS

Thread needs solution

Does anyone have experience with backing up of Windows PCs to a NAS

I want most important data from alle network PCs in our household being automatically backuped up every day.

I have updated to ATIH2012 hoping, that some of the problemes I had before have been solved. But I am still frustrated:

1. E-mail backup does not work. ATIH backs up only a small part of the e-mails in the 5 GB PST file and hangs frequently. Completely unreliable.

2. Backup over the gigabit network (LAN) on the NAS takes for ever - much longer than previously on USB drive.

Who can help me?

Additionally:

I have the following backup strategy:

A. Weekly drive / volume backup. Since it is not possible to restore individual files from a volume backup, I am doing this only weekly and am doing a files backup on a daily basis:
B. Daily filebackup automatically triggered when you log out (I have Outlook closes automatically via a batch)

I have omitted e-mail backup because it is not working (see above)

Do you have any suggestions?

This problem has probably nothing to do with the destination type.

That it takes much longer than on USB is not surprising. The problem is often not the network, but the NAS performance. What you have to compare is the performance of Windows copying a multi-GB file to the NAS versus ATI backing up.
Anothing you can try is to use a shared folder of the computer you backup as a destination for the backup (not a folder on a disk you backup, though). Then observe the backup performace versus a direct backup. This could give you a sense of whether the network access is hindering the backup performance.

You can restore individual files and folders from a volume backup.
