Problems with creating ZIP-Backup-Archives

Thread needs solution

Having a problem when creating ZIP-Backup-Archives with ATI Home 2010 at Windows 7. It seems that ATI has a bug if the count or size of files to backup is to large. Using the TIB format instead of ZIP for the same job works fine.

The task is configured to run an incremental backup and store data in a zip-archive. If the task is started a "temporary" *.z01 file is created at the storage location. Once the backup is finished successfully(!!!) the *.z01 file is renamed to *.zip. In my case it is not!!!

Files to backup:
29.924 Files, 2990 Folders
142 GB (152.831.605.077 bytes)

Storing the files in TIB format creates an archive of about 130 GB (compression max). Storing the files in ZIP format aborts after a size of about 25 GB and leaves the "temporary" *.z01 file on disk. ATI log entries are:

Data Backup started
...
Creating incremental backup of ...

The "Action finished successfully" entry is missing as it would be shown for a successful backup. That is why I suspect that the backup task is finished unintentionally.

Tried to work around the problem by getting the archive split at a size of 20 GB automatically, but does not work, too. First file is finished successfully at a size of about 20 GB. Second file aborts at about 5 GB with the same behaviour as described above.

As the size and count of files for each single zip-file were limited by splitting the files, I think it is a bug in the ATI itself and not a limitation of the zip-format.

Have no solution so far. Any comments are appreciated.

Hello LDH,

Thank you for using  Acronis Products

There is an issue with the compression algorithm. To avoid this, in the task options, set the compression level to none. See if the issue persists.

Try running separate backup tasks, so that the amount of files in a onetime backup will be reduced.

Just wanted to report that I am having this same problem. I added a rather large file to the backup task and there was not enough space for the zip file in its backup location so it created a .z01 file.
I then changed the location for the zip file to a larger space location but it still gives a .z01 file. Then I removed the large file from the backup...still have .z01 files created.
So there is a size limit for the creation of these zip files?
I really wanted all files in one convenient backup but...oh,well...will try splitting them to make each file backup smaller.

Hello Hope,

Could you please let us investigate this issue and do the following:

1. Please let me know the build number of the product, which you can find in the Help -> About dialog (it should be a 3 or 4 digit number)?

2. Provide me with the exact sequence of actions that lead to the issue you report, so that I can try to reproduce it

3. Collect AcronisInfo tool output:

- Download the file;
- Run the downloaded file
The gathered information will be put in adv_report.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.
Running AcronisInfo may take up to 5 minutes.

Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the issue appears and the link to this thread. Then please provide me with the case number you receive from our system, so I can pick it up and speed up the process. We will do our best to investigate the problem and provide you with a solution.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Regards,

I just want you to know that I have the same problem. The backup is created, but now I have no way to restore it!
