Problems with External Hard Drive Backup

Thread needs solution

Hi All

i am using Acronis True image 2010 build 6053 and i set my back ups to use an external drive, i have it set so that if the task is missed it will back up when the device is attached, last night a back up was due and when i opened up acronis it said the task was queued as my external drive was not connected, today when i plugged in the external drive i expected the back up to start, but it didnt?, when i looked at the task it just said it was idle, with no completed date and no last run time, so does this mean it will only try to back up again when next Tuesday comes around??, if so this seems a bit pointless.

Also i keep trying to place a tick in the box that says "Run task only if current device is attached" but when i go back in to the schedule again the tick has disappeared, what is going on??

Thanks

Pete

Not much help here but I'm pretty sure your best workaround at this point is to make a new task. That should at least get you the option to "run only if attached."

Thanks, but i tried that last night and as soon as i went back in to the task the option was unticked again :-(

Hello Pete and Scott,

I will help you to resolve the issue.

As far as I understand, you're setting up the task with the condition to run once the device is attached, but it does not start, am I right?

Also, this option disappears from the task settings each time, is that correct?

If yes, please follow the suggestions below:

First of all, please try to recreate the task from scratch (just for testing, select an internal drive and check whether the same task can start) by doing this we would be able to exclude the general scheduler failures.

Also, please collect the following information from your PC:

1. AcronisInfo tool output:

- Download the file;
- Run the downloaded file
The gathered information will be put in adv_report.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.
Running AcronisInfo may take up to 5 minutes.

2. Screenshots of each step you perform when creating the task:

If you are not familiar with making screen shots, please read the below step-by-step instructions.

- Get to the window which you want to make a screen shot of;
- Hit the (Alt+)PrintScreen button on your keyboard;
- Run Paint usually available in Start\Programs\Accessories or another graphics application;
- Choose Paste command in Edit menu;
- Save the result picture in JPEG format being preferable.

Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the issue appears and the link to this thread. Then please provide me with the case number you receive from our system, so I can pick it up and speed up the process. We will do our best to investigate the problem and provide you with a solution.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Thank you.

Pete,
Consider the use of Drive Notify as listed in my signature link below. This neat little program will tell you to attach the external drive (at the appropriate time) and will not run until it is attached. There are both free and very very inexpensive versions. I used the purchased version because of its ability to automate.

Thanks for the advice but i already have it but its still not helping with my problem, i am now trying to back up to an internal drive to see it that works, but its not ideal as i want my back ups on external drive.

Pete.

Hi Alexander

i have been having other problems with True image located here

http://forum.acronis.com/forum/9061

I have already tried the Acronisinfo and after a few minutes it tols me that the program had stopped working, i then tried the acronis report program but agian this stopped working after a few minutes, i am running windows 7 64 bit with an i7 processor.

so if i cant get this info, but i can get screenshots is it worth me submitting a request for technical support???

Also i am currently running the back up task on an internal drive to see if it runs ok, so far its run for a couple of days without any problems but it will run again tonight, i will then post back the results.

Thanks Pete

Hello Pete,

Thanks for the clarification.

It looks like AcronisInfo is trying to run some component which crashes your system. It would be better to collect the information separately:

1. Windows system information:

- Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;
- Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";
- Send us the saved file.

2. Acronis Report:

Please download Acronis Report utility and run it, create a report and send it to us? Please compress the Acronis Report output file into an archive (e.g. with WinZip) and attach to your message by browsing for the archive.
This would provide me with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

3. Log files from the operation:

- Start Acronis True Image Home;
- Select Tools -> Show log;
- Choose the log entry which contains errors;
- Click on the diskette icon, choose the location (folder) and save there;
- Send us the log.

In order to contact us you follow the procedure described in this article. Then please post the case number so I can forward it to the responsible person.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hi
i have done as you asked, the case number is as follows....

[Case 00595777] Specify location of volume 1 problem [ ref:00D3Zcb.50058bpIf:ref ]

But as i stated before Acronis Report Utility stopped responding after a while but i sent in the log anyway as it seemed quite full

Hope this helps, as im well fed up with this right now :-(

Regards

Pete

P.s i have also attached reports to this post if it helps
