Product Installation Issues

Thread needs solution

Steve,

Did you have a previous version of True Image installed?

Have you tried installing by right clicking on the installer file and selecting 'Run as Administrator'?

Have you tried disabling your firewall and A/V software temporarily whilst installing?

If none of the above work, I suggest raising a support ticket via your Acronis account as soon as possible.

Once again in english: I try to use Acronis for weeks 2012 effectively. There is present many large and small problems. Therefore I hoped for an update. The Build 6131 let itself install without large problems. Everything seemed to be somewhat better. But cannot be accessed on all USB sticks any longer. They are provided in the equipment manager with an exclamation mark (also those before ever at the computer were not put). I tried the whole 3 time after a Restore. Now i tried the fix from kb 26062. Same result. What a mess!

Bernhard,

Sorry, I thought you had said, everything was working apart from one USB stick and you were going to report back later.

Is it only when you restore that the USB sticks stop working, or when you insert them?

Do you have an external USB hub that you are using?

What brand / make are the USB sticks that don't work?

My experience is not looking good and I'm after any help I can get to get my XP box up and running again.
I had a full version of ATIH 2009 installed and it was working fine but I succummed to a marketing mail to upgrade to 2012. Oh what a mistake.
What I thought would be a quick upgrade process has let me with an unusable PC.
First Install: Hung the PC during the installation. Only option was force a shutdown using the off switch.
(I should have stopped there)
Tried a second go at the install and it froze again so again reached for the off switch.

Now, XP will not boot at all. Not even in Safe Mode. It gets the to point of loading fltsrv.sys then just hangs.

I'm REALLY pi**ed off that "reputable" software has rendered my PC unusable.

Peter,

Have you tried booting via the F8 option (just before Windows is about to load, press the F8 key) and selecting 'restore last known good boot'?

If that works, I would suggest uninstalling 2009 and then install 2012. You will of course need to input your 2009 serial number as well as the 2012 one.

I would also suggest removing the Secure Zone if you had it installed and activated with 2009.

Is your version of XP a shop bought version or one provided by a computer manufacturer such as Dell?

If the F8 option doesn't work, there are two other options to consider.

1. Assuming you have an XP install CD, run a repair install (that is you select to make an install and then you will get the option to repair or make a new install). Note that although this option will repair your registry, it will lose any updates and service packs that aren't provided with the install CD.

2. It is possible to gain access via the command line of the install CD and attempt to remove the fltsrv.sys from the registry entry.

Note that XP must be at SP3 for 32bit versions and SP2 for the 64 bit version for 2012 to work.

Hallo Colin,

after installing revision 6131 USB sticks stopped working. (Exclamation marks in device manager).
remove and insert usb sticks did not change the behaviour.

I have 2 Trekstor sticks and one Kingston DT Ultimate 32GB

Hallo G. Uphoff,

Wieder 2 Stunden pc Adventure.

Viele Grüße, Bernhard

Bernhard,

Does this happen with all your USB sricks or just some of them?

Have you tried a repair install of 2012 in case one of the filter drivers hasn't installed correctly?

Hi Colin,

I found a Verbatim Store N Go and a Kingston 16 GB USB Stick. The same Problem. The sticks are shown under drives with an exclamation mark and their complete name.
No access is possible.
I think the filter drivers are installed correctly. Also the snapapi fix and the virtual disk fix.

Greetings, Bernhard

Ti 2012 installed OK but when I clicked on "backup now", the computer rebooted. Why -o-why did I upgrade?
Can anyone help?
Jim Moss

Jim,

Try a repair install, reboot and thern see what happens.

What OS are you using?

XP Home sp3,
Can you tell me how to do a repair/install? I do not know how to do this. (TI 2011) works fine, I should not have updagted!
Jim Moss

just rerun the 2012 installer, it should give you a repair option.

**edited mistypes.**

I did the repair/install and the backup worked. I made a successful backup. Thanks for the suggestion.
Jim Moss (XP Home sp3)

I have used Acronis True Image Home for many years; ever since it was made available in the UK!

Recently, I down loaded the trial version of 2012, thinking that I might upgrade from version 2011.

The trial version of 2012, like the previous versions of TIM, worked perfectly, With durations for backing up (separately) my Operating System (Windows 7, 64 bit [43 GB]) and my personal folders (My Pictures, etc. [360 GBs]) being very similar.

Typically 10 minutes, for the operating system, and just short of two hours, for my personal data (to an external hard drive - USB3)

I practised all of the available facilities, on the trial version, and no problems were noted!

I scheduled, Differential back plans, and I observed that these took only minutes to complete, including verification!

I was so impressed that I purchased a full licence - WHAT a DISASTER!

With the Full version, I experienced the following problems.

(1) The loss of Acronis icons - Acronis icons, on my desktop, task bar, and in the programs menu, all reverted to basic Windows icons!

(2) I found that I could not uninstall Acronis 2012, using the Add/Remove programs facility (Not the correct privileges - contact my Administrator).

(3) I found that I could not enter Windows Safe Mode.

(4) Backing up my personal files (data) was totally unsatisfactory! With exactly the same settings, as with the Trial version, the process continued for in excess of than 8 hours, with no sign of finishing! The task bar/interface indicated 128%, and calculating, respectively.

Fortunately, I had an Acronis image of my operating system, which I created prior to installing any version of Acronis TIM - A clean installation!

I repeatedly restored this clean installation, and 3 times installed

(a) Version 2011 (Update 3, Build 6942 - the latest version)

(b) The trial version of 2012

(c) The full version of 2012

The problems (1) to (4) only occurred with the full version of 2012!

I cannot account for this problem, and I must admit that Acronis have been most helpful (Chat); however, I have lost confidence with 2012 (Full), and restored 2011!

Acronis immediately refunded my payment in full!

I only hope that they take time to investigate my problems

I purchased a new laptop a few days ago. It's running Win 7 Pro SP1. I own Acronis 2010 Home for my 32bit XP system & figured I would look at Acronis software for my new computer. I downloaded the trial version. It downloaded & installed without incident. The first thing I noticed was that it "stole" the backup duties from Windows backup - In fact, Windows backup would no longer work. Then I noticed that my desktop icons had all turned white & lost their distinctive colors, etc. I didn't even bother to attempt to run a backup - I hate software that makes changes without asking - I definitely hate software that interferes with the ability of other programsto operate properly. So, I uninstalled it!! Guess what? Windows backup was not restored to it's original state & my icons were still messed up. I had to 'restore' to an earlier time to get rid of the rest of Acronis 2012.

Acronis 2012 home has problems!!!!

I have been using Acronis since 2009 (the ATIH 2010--yes I do have the disk also). I just upgraded to 2012 yesterday. I also received the 2012 disk in the mail. Everything seemed to go well installing over 2010. Then the problems started. After a successful full backup, I couldn't restore anything. I read the user guide until my eyes bugged out trying to understand the new version. I am 72 and don't learn as well as I did 2 years ago. With the help of online chat, I finally got everything restored and working. I really don't like the 2012 and would like to go back to 2010 unless there is a very good reason to have a new version. My needs are simple since I am a lone home user. Is there a simple way to uninstall 2012 and go back to 2010? Is it advisable? Or should I just stick with it and learn.

Bob
Windows 7 Home 64 bit.

Bob,

I can't tell you what to do but I can tell you that I have decided to NOT use Acronis software for backing up my new machine. I figure if I have problems running it, how can I count on the program to restore my system when needed? I don't have the time, or desire, to be a beta tester. Personally, I decided to back up my hard drive to a USB 3.0 external disk using the software that came with it. Problem solved!

i have an apparent successful install on my win7 home premium 32 bit but the program fails to start.
at the end of running the Acronis True Image Home 2012 Upgrade installation i receive an error box stating:
MediaBuilder.exe - System Error
The program can't start because fox.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
when i 'ignore'/close it & get:
Acronis Time Explorer
Failed to check Snapman driver
Event code: 0x0064000B+0x00AC003B+0x00AC003A
i have uninstalled & re-installed 3 times in varying degrees of deep cleaning severity to no avail, i can still not get the program interface to open & received this app crash from windows:

even tho i also noticed that it has been making backups on schedule, any help here for me please?
thanks,
;)

Michael,

Did/do you have the Plus Pack for the previous version installed? This can cause installation problems if you don't install it before installing 2012.

Instead of uninstalling, try just running the 2012 installer again and select 'repair'. I suggest doing that by right clicking on the installer and selecting 'run as administrator'.

Yes, I find the program too complicated for me, especially the new one. And the fact that even the local tech could not use my Acronis backup to restore my machine after a hard drive failure makes me feel like a fool buying the new one. In a few months, I will buy a new computer, hopefully before Windows 8 comes out and do the same as you--use USB 3 external drive for backup. Thanks for the response and tip.

Sandy,
I looked at your screenshot and I can tell you it's a good feeling to find somebody else with EXACTLY the same problem I had! Until now, I was beginning to wonder if I had a WinXP configuration that was a little too unique. Now I know better. Before you spin your wheels with Acronis Tech Support, let me share my horror story that started on December 24th and doesn't seem to have ended well. At least not yet. Up front, my conclusion is that there is a problem with ATIH2012. Or more precisely, there is a problem with the upgrade version of ATIH2012 (I know this because I have already successfully installed the full version on my other computer, a Dell Mini running WinXP as well). I can also tell you that Acronis tech support couldn't solve the problem in two very long chat sessions. Worse yet, the second support person I got tried to fix the problem on my computer in a remote connection session during which she thre everything but the kitchen sink at the problem. What she ended up doing was trashing my system. It took me several hours of work to get my system nearly back to what it was before she used an ATIH cleanup utility to "clean" my system! After that experience, I won't be allowing another Tech Support person from Acronis on my system any time soon! But let me tell you what I and the Tech Support folks have tried - unsuccessfully I might add.
I originally had ATIH2010 installed on my WinXP Pro system although I also have an ATIH2011 upgrade that I never installed. Since I bought ATIH2012 on December 24th with ATIH2011 still uninstalled, I decided to go right to ATIH2012. My first installation died as you are familiar with. Since the install was almost at the end, I waited for a very long time, just in case, constantly checking the Task Manager for activity (there was). After a long wait (I'm a very patient person), I decided to abort the install. But then I found that I couldn't shut the installation down - not even with the Task Manager! Eventually I did a hard reboot. When I came back up, ATIH2012 seemed to have installed, but it had a 30-day activation counter (remember, activation was supposed to occur as part of the install as long as you were connected to the Internet, which I was). The installation seemed to work too because I succeeded in using it to make an emergency boot disk. But the activation link in the bottom of the seemingly complete install (which does not appear with a successful installation) did not respond to clicks.
I was unhappy with this situation, so I uninstalled ATIH2012, and just to prove a point installed my oldest ATIH - version 10.0. I tested that, then upgraded it to ATIH 2009, tested that, then upgraded to ATIH2010, tested that as well. Finally, I upgraded to ATIH 2011 which I had but had never installed before. That worked too. Then I went back to installing ATIH 2012. Same exact problem of stalling at the end. I tried this a few times before I called Tech Support. The first guy spent about 90 minutes with me in a chat session. But after several reboots, the last time I connected to Tech Support, I was told he had left for the day. So I got a new support person who tried all sorts of tricks - unsuccessfully - before bringing in the hammer of the Acronis cleanup utility which pretty much trashed my system by deleting all sorts of unrelated files on my system - my NVidia nview.dll driver, parts of Office 2010, some parts of Acrobat Reader (so that I now constantly get a display asking what language I'm using), etc. The worst part of it all was that she summarily logged out of the tech support session without telling me anything about having to leave. Just like that, she was gone once the damage was done.
I have now reverted back to ATIH2011. Although I filed another Tech Support request, this time by e-mail, I only did so to register the presence of this bug in the install package, not because I want to use their Tech Support. Of course, I will constantly check back for new builds until I find one that works. I'm in this software building business myself, so I know eventually they will own up to, and fix, the problem.
If you ask me, my guess is that the program stalls at the activation step and if I had to give them any advice, I'd ask them to look there first. But for now, after spending at least six hours over four days on this, I'm going to give it a rest for about a month and give Acronis a chance to catch up with a solution.

thnx Colin!
but i do not have the plus pack
btw i HAVE installed the 'hotfix', which will not uninstall apparently, or if it does, i see no opportunity to do so, after my severe cleans it's still there (when i run it's install file again it tells me it's already installed)....
ok, so after your suggestion i took a different approach by using the acronis uninstall instead of the repair facility, & it finally worked, previously i had used the windows uninstaller.... must say after reading other posts here the serial # input was different from my unsuccessful attempts, in that this time it asked for the 2011 serial i was upgrading from, i had not seen that before at the serial # input.
hope it helps, thnx again!

This software sucks.
I've asked for a refund & do not have the time to dick with screwed up half assed software when everything else works & installs just fine.
I'm done with these guys.

Always got: installation has failed. fatal error during installation. Windows installer service could not be accessed
The windows installer is fine. BTW

I bought the licenses for Acronis True Image Home 2012 Upgrade (English) and for Home 2012 Plus Pack. Acronis True Image Home 2012 Upgrade installed cleanly, and it seems to run perfectly.

PROBLEM: Acronis True Image Home 2012 PLUS PACK (English) does not install, after Acronis True Image Home 2012 Upgrade is already installed. The PP installer never advances to the screen that accepts my license number. Instead it gives this error statement:

“Installation incomplete. Full version of Acronis True Image Home must be installed …”.

I downloaded PP twice, same result. Also re-read the Acronis installation instructions, tried shutting off my antivirus program and did a repair install of True Image Home 2012. PP still won’t install.

I'll welcome advice on how to make PP install. Thank you.

Scott,

Try uninstalling the previous build of PP first.

I don’t have a previous version..........this is on a clean windows system. I just want my money back.

I cant install my plus pack that came with ti 2012. It keeps asking for an upgrade serial number and I was not given one.

MJB,

Is your serial number for 2012 itself an upgrade or full product one?

Colin B wrote:

Scott,

Hi Colin. Thank you for replying! I really appreciate it.

My previous installation was Acronis Personal 2010. There was no previous build of PP on this new computer (Win 7 Pro - 64bit).

Now I've installed Acronis Home 2012, and it seems to work perfectly. I'm very happy with it! Excellent product!

My purchase also included a license to PP, which I want to install to gain its capabilities.

When the PP executable is launched, it displays the splash screen briefly, pauses there while indicating it's checking for updates, then automatically changes to a fail message. The screen that accepts entry of my valid PP license number is never displayed.

The fail message is: “Installation incomplete. Full version of Acronis True Image Home must be installed …”.

I've downloaded fresh copies of PP a few times, shut of the antivirus, etc., to prevent interference, but no joy.  How can I force the PP to install?

@MJB,

Did you have a PP for the older version of True Image? I'm wondering if you've got a 'full' install version PP serial number but an upgrade installer of PP. If you had PP with your previous version, try uninstalling that, reboot and see if PP will now install.

@Scott,

It sounds as though you might have a similar problem to MJB. You've got an upgrade version of TIH, but a full serial number for PP, though in both cases I thought the PP serial number shouldn't care.

When you say Acronis Personal 2010, does this mean you had a version that came either on a magazine CD or directly from a computer manufacturer? If the answer is yes, then upgrading over this might not be as straight forward.

@BOTH Posters

Is your PP build the same as the 2012 build? If not make sure the builds match.

Try;

1. An install of PP after right clicking on the installer file and selecting 'run as administrator' even if your log on has Admin capabilities, these aren't the same as a System Admin.

2. Try the above but this time starting with a repair install of 2012 and then the PP.

Installing Acronis True Image Home 2012

I purchased the Upgrade last Saturday and have been trying to install since.

It seems to stop at Registration Modules - installing about four bars into line.
But sometimes it goes as high as 50% of install line.
I believe it should have accessed the internet at this time, but it does not appear to do so.

The program is stalled, I have tried the Acronis Cleaner, but it destroys my True Image 2011.
I can try again after restarting, but I can only start by using " Last Known Good ". This has
failed several times and I have had to use my backup on external drive to replace system.

When I have tried the partial installed icon it advises me that Scheduling Service is off.
At present this appears to be under control as Acronis Schedule 2 is activated

It does not appear on Control Panel - Add Remove Programs.

John
Acronis scheduler 2 will not start. Restarted aftershutdown.
I was able to install program on a second internal hard drive.
I removed Nero programs as I thought conflict might be there.
I have been unable to reach chat or other Acronis contact

Hello all like you I have had several days of getting 2012 to install tried all the clean up utilities provided by acronis to no avail. However all was not lost I managed to get TIH 2011 installed again which was a bit of a trial on its own, had to use the acronis 2012 clean up utility for that.

Previously i had been uninstalling 2011 this time i left it in place gave the installer administrator rights which I had not done before and performed an in place upgrade instead of a clean install. To my amazement the installer went through its process with a successfully completed message this time.

I knew a little devine intervention had to come my way some time. I rebooted the machine and then installed the plus pack the same way then went as planned as well.

I rebooted again and i am now in the process of performing a backup. I have installed build 6131 and will report back when backup is finished if that goes well i will install the latest build 6154 and report back again.

I am usung Win 7 home preimum 64 bit

Regards Russell

Backup performed with no problems that i can see all seems good with build 6131

Tech support from Kingston said:
The software that comes with the derive (sp) does not have the ability to clone just one partition to a new SSD. Please provide where you saw in our documentation or in the software where it stated you could do this?

when running the software (and in the PDF instruction file) it says under "clone disk". - "You can copy partitions of a selected disk to another disk."

this is clearly not the case. the seagate version will clone a partition, but it failed on my kingston SSD.

i finally used EASEUS which worked flawlessly.

I tried for a week to install Acronis True Image Home. I have a second 300 GB internal hard drive installed. I was able to doownload and install on that. second drive. Finally I realized that I could use this install to back up my other main 'C ' Drive I have done so and today after cleanng up my main disk I have done a differential follow up.
I may continue to try reaching Acronis support in installing Ti 1012 on main drive.
The only way I could remove a suspended program install was to restart. This did not removethe suspended program, but it did allow me to try another install. I had removed Nero programs as a possible conflict. When I re-installed Nero 10, it asked to remove the failed installl TI 2012 first.
If Nero can remove a suspended program, there must be software somewhere to do the same, but I have been unable to find such.

I am trying to install ATIH2012 on to a new laptop having previously had the software on a desktop which is being replaced by the laptop.

When I try to use the serial number from the initial installation, it is too long to fit in the box provided & will not cut & paste.

Can I install the software on a new machine or do I have to pay for a new licence?

Anomolouswizard,

This sounds weird, 2012 accepts the current 64 digit serial numbers, unless in error you are trying to input an activation code.

Cut and paste the serial number that appears in the serial.txt file that is available in your Acronis account.

The only message you should be seeing is one telling you, you need to deactivate the product from your old laptop and activate the new installation.

The laptop didn't come with a preinstalled OEM version of TIH by any chance?

I'm having major problems installing ATIH 2012 upgrade over ATIH 2011 on an XP Sp3 Toshiba A100-998 laptop system

1. the install goes fine and appears to work.
2. Activation - can't contact website - activated manually OK.

HOWEVER

3. Every time I install or run (3 times now) Acronis 2012 corrupts my wireless router. (BT Voyager 2100).
4. Even though I restore the settings on the router from a file, when I run ATIH 2012 - bang, it corrupts the router.

Has anyone any useful advise apart from re-install ATIH 2011 (which I have done)....

Cheers

Shamrock,

When you say 2012 'corrupts' your wireless router, exactly what happens?

Good Morning Colin,

Thanks for taking an interest in my problem.

By corrupt I mean that some parameter in the router is changed by the programme so that router looses the ability to communicate with my ISP. (I tried several different browsers)

The router shows good up and down line speed to the exchange but all websites show 'site not found' so some parameter is changed which is critical for the ISP. The ISP say that there is no problem at the exchange.

Even when I restore all parameters to the router, with ATIH 2012 on my system, no websites can be found. As soon as I uninstall ATIH 2012 and restore the settings to the router, everything works fine.

I have ATIH 2011 and that doesn't cause any problems.

The Acronis Chat Help recommended I install and activate with no internet connection, which I did and when I turned on the router it was instantly non-functioning. I removed ATIH 2012 and restored the router and everything worked fine.

Shamrock,

Do you know what chipset it uses or who makes it for BT?

If you use a wired connection to the router do you still have the problem does the problem go away if your switch the WiFi off?

Does the DSL sync light stay on?

Do you 'dial up' with your router or is it an 'always connected' DSL link - if you static IP address you probably have an 'always connected' connection.

Are you still able to access the router homepage?

Is your lease expiring? This would stop you getting access to the internet.

If you have another PC wired to the router, does this lose its' connection at the same time as the laptop?

Does XP show the connection as; open, no internet, no network ?

If you open a command prompt and type in IPCONFIG /ALL what do you see (obviously you'll need 2012 installed again)

What exact router setting do you have to change to get things working again?

I use a Draytek Vigor 2820Vn which has VOIP and WiFi and used my laptop to connect with no problems, which is of not much help to you except to say TIH shouldn't be interfering with anything.

I take it this is what you have http://www.thinkbroadband.com/hardware/reviews/6-voyager2100.html - is it the PC card type or the box?

This topic is about installation issues. Is there also a topic about de-installation issues? I mean issues like this:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/27907

I guess people are aware by now that installing the 2012 version (trail or retail) makes changes to the OS that will remain after de-install and will not be reversed but can impair performance, stability and device recognition. A separate topic on how to (manually) undo these changes step by step would be helpful; it saves searching the forum. Or is this forum the right place to discuss these issues too?

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32, SP1

During install computer hung. Rebooted. Windows failed to start, timntr.sys is missing, or corrupt.

Read forums, apparently this has been an issue in the past, but was thought to be not an issue in recent versions.

Was able to restore system using Vista installation disk. Now trying to figure out how to undo all the system registry changes. Machine is slower to boot now.
