program did not work when needed

Thread needs solution

Heres my story with Acronis True Image Home 2011

I have had the program -Acronis True Image Home 2011 for about 4 months and a bit and I had this other program go bad on me after an upgrade so I thought hey I have this acronis program so I may as well use it and go back in time and this will solve the problem.

So I go to one of the backups and press on files and folders section and wait and wait and wait and then it says acronis has a problem and needs to close. So I reboot and it does the same thing… so I reboot and the same once again. So I try Non stop backup but the registry still has stuff in it so that didn’t work either to get the old program back. Soooo I reboot and press F11 as I am prompted each time I reboot so I get in and theres a frozen mouse. But it seems you anticipated that and you have instructions how to get the mouse active but I tried all that you said but still no keyboard or mouse so I could not use your F11 either. Next I tried the bootable disk I made from your program and the same …no mouse or keyboard will work.

Well so much for backing up. Boy that was and is scary because what if I had a real serious problem and wanted to restore a full backup I would have been really pissed.

Then I went back into the program in windows and thought well I guess I am forced to do a full restore which I really didn’t want to do but anyways it said.... are you sure you want to do this as your computer may become UNBOOTABLE !!! What? I don’t know, I am exhausted trying to figure what seems simple but man oh man this has me pissed.

I could only resolve my problem with nonstop backup to get the old program back and then I used win7 64 system restore point,,, so Acronis was pretty useless for me.

Do you have any suggestions?

What about your Bootable Rescue Disk?
You cannot restore an active drive.
You need to do it with your Rescue Disk.
It should take 10-20 minutes total.
I have done this hundreds and hundreds of times.
It is more reliable than Winows restore points.

I said... I cannot get the mouse or keyboard to work inside the program when I boot from the rescue disk. I know it works for a lot of people so why not me? I think I know what I am doing as I watched a lot of utube video explaining how to use this product but if the keyboard and mouse don't work .... then theres no way to use it.

Boy I remember the days of Ghost Nortons on a small floppy disk. That worked great but I guess things are more complicated these days.

Anyways thanks for your reply. I just don't know what to do. But if I have to format and start all that over again then whats the use of a backup program. Ghost used to load your mouse drivers but I guess acronis doesn't.

does anyone know why it says if I do a restore my computer might become unbootable. Thats just weird. Why would I say sure go ahead and restore my computer but it won't boot.

JD,

A number of questions.

What build of 2011 are you using?

Which OS?

What type of backup did you make and where to, for example was it a full disk or partitions, or a files and folders backup?

Is your mouse and keyboard wireless if so what brand and are they bluetooth?

Do you have a card reader (internal or external) attached?

Do you have AHCI mode enabled in your BIOS? This could be causing problems if you do.

If when Windows boots you get the F11 choice this means at some time the ASRM has been activated, so are you storing your image/backups in the Secure Zone?

From what you've said, and I just want to check, when booting from the rescue CD you pressed F11 and got to the linux parameter command line with the word 'quiet'.......... and tried
either or both

acpi=off

noapic

nomouse (this might allow at least your keyboard to start working)

Have you tried a repair install to stop the Windows version closing?

When you say 'this other program went bad' what exactly did it do? I take it it wasn't a different imaging program? Is your Windows installation stable at this moment?
