PST file online backup
Hi, i use ATI 2010 and online backup to internet storage. If there is a small change in my PST email file of MS Outlook (just some new emails, calendar events), is backed up each time whole PSt file at all, or just changes in the file? The file is about 0,5 GB now. Or is there other recommended way how to back up PST files? I have tried E-mail Backup in ATI, but it generated Error Dialog on my laptop (may be because i use MS Office 2010 x64, that is not supported yet?).
Thanks for ideas.

Hello all,
Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.
Let me answer your questions.
Acronis True Image during the online backup detects changes for the last modified date, date of creation and the file size. If the file was changed, it will upload it the whole changed file to our servers. Acronis True Image can't read any information inside PST file, so Curtis is absolutely correct.
Please reply to this thread if you have any further questions.
Thank you.

Well, now we have a real problem with the whole concept of online backup.
* The .pst files are typically very large.
* The upload speeds from our computers are typically very slow.
* We typically get a few emails every day, which changes the .pst file.
This means that if we are backing up our data, say every day, then the computer will be grinding away for hours every day uploading the changed .pst file.
I am presently using The Bat!, where the problem is already quite serious, but I am thinking of changing to Outlook, which uses even fewer, and larger, data files.
As I say, this problem seems to be sufficient to sink the whole idea of storage in the cloud.

I have the same question
In outlook 2010, I have 20gb pst file. This file changes every day. would it be able to complete upload (due to change in date size etc)?? seems that acronis online isn't fast enough to pemit?

I am working on a strategy for this. Likely it will involve scheduling a script that copies the active Outlook PST and Archive PST file for the day to an archive backup folder. Then I will point the Acronis online backup to that folder and not the original PST file.
In order to keep the active (ever changing) PST file to manageable size, I use auto-archive and annual manual archives by year--e.g. Outook Archive 2011, 2010, etc. If annually leaves the active PST file still too large, one can simply compress the archival time to make more manageably-sized files.
Acronis might make this simpler by providing a built-in solution for the few people who use outlook and other such email clients?
Any other thoughts?
Regards,
Ron
