question regarding True Image disk images

Thread needs solution

Hi all...

I am new to this process so bear with me...

I suppose this is something I should have investigated before purchasing the product, but I am kind of confused now about what TI will and will not do.

Just a simple question really - will TI Home 2009 allow me to create a hard disk image that will include all the settings, files, and most importantly APPLICATIONS that currently are installed on my hard drive?

Reading through the manual leaves me with some confusion since it implies that it will not create an image of the applications I have already installed.

I don't want to clone anything to load on another computer, just image everything in case of a crash or hardware failure.

thanx in advance

Robert:

Yes, TI will allow you to make what is called an "image" of your disk; a single file that contains a compressed copy of everything that is on the disk. When you restore this image to the same disk or to a new disk, everything is restored. This includes the operating system, programs, files, settings, etc.

The confusion arises because the program also includes methods of saving just files and folders, or just email, etc. For the moment, ignore these and just concentrate on the sections of the manual that describe how to make a "My Computer" backup of your disk.

Your intended use, as described in your last paragraph, is precisely what the program is designed to do.

Have a look at the GroverH sticky for some advice on backups

There is some really good information about making backups

and more importantly about reducing the risk of problems when restoring
