Question for XBOOT users

Thread needs solution

I want to use XBOOT again (using YUMI atm) but have a big problem with it: whenever I attempt to add multiple Acronis .iso (bootmedia) images to XBOOT, it doesn't seem to know that they are all different, and so not all the .isos are properly added. XBOOT wants to copy them as ati.iso or atib.iso or some such and new .isos dragged/dropped overwrite the others on USB stick creation.

How to get XBOOT to recognize these are different? Where is XBOOT getting (or making-up) names for the .isos?

I even tried using ImgBurn to change the Volume Labels for the .isos, most of which are labeled ACRONIS_MEDIA originally, but that didn't help.

Others here must have many multiple ATIH versions on their boot sticks? How?

Try naming each .iso differently. You could also select the option to add via Grub4DOS rather than the ATI menu option.

Naming differently doesn't work. I don't know what it means to "add via Grub4DOS" (I use XBOOT to create the structure & menu) but will surf on it.

Yes, I'm aware that you use Xboot. I'm talking about Xboot.

It's the very first menu item in the drop-down list in the "Identify the ISO file" dialog. When you add an unknown ISO, that dialog opens and the list allows you to identify what program it is. The top item is "Add using Grub4DOS ISO image Emulation", which lets you add ISOs that Xboot doesn't natively recognize.

Also, as you add ISOs to Xboot's window, the "Name" and "Category" fields are editable, so you don't have to accept whatever default name or category Xboot assigns.

Ok, I understand you now. I have always used "Add using Grub4DOS ISO image Emulation'. Further, because all my Acronis ISOs are already differently named, I'm not sure what renaming them again would achieve:
ATI_7.iso
TI2010b7160.iso
TI2011Netbook.iso
TI2012b7133.iso
TI2013b5551.iso
TI2013b6514.iso
TI2013b6528.iso

and internal to the files the Volume labels are different as well, since I changed all with ImgBurn as stated before.

But when I try to add all of these to XBOOT, it accepts only two of them, and upon transferring to my USB stick they get named ati.iso and atib.iso or some such and the others are ignored or overwritten.

Am I the only one trying to put multiple versions of ATI onto a USB stick? Or this problem doesn't occur for you (or anyone else)?

I do know how to fix it--by copying-over to the USB stick all of the different isos and then manually editing the menu files, but I was hoping to learn a new trick to not have to do this...

As I said, in Xboot's window, the "Name" and "Category" fields are editable.

I have made Xboot USB flash drives with multiple ATI ISOs, so it can be done. If I get a chance, I'll make a new one to remind me if I did anything special. I think all I did was rename those fields I mentioned.

Well that hasn't worked for me but thanks for your feedback tuttle. Somehow XBOOT (for me anyway) renames the .isos as it copies them to the stick as I mentioned and so I've had to fix everything manually.

I've now tried YUMI and something called Easy2Boot both of which yield more complicated menus than I like, so maybe manually editing XBOOT files is where I will remain.

I saw this liink, perhaps you have an interest.

Here is also a link to use Grub4Dos from MudCrab.
I use it on both flashdrives, usb disks, and one of my internals (2nd disk) are all bootable to Grub4Dos and each has a menu of selectable iso files which can be selected for activation.

Thanks Grover, yes your first link is what I've been trying to make work. And themudcrab tutorial describes the manual editing process re: menu.lst. I'm no expert at the menu.lst commands but do know how to edit them to avoid the problem I've experienced with XBOOT (that it changes .iso names and copies-over multiple Acronis .isos).

I just hoped I'd been missing something obvious with XBOOT cuz it makes the simplest, cleanest menus of all the various grub tools.

Did you try editing the "Name" and "Category" fields in the Xboot window before creating the drive? That's where the menu entries come from.

Yes I did. The problem's not the menu entries per se, but that when XBOOT copies the files from the hard drive to the USB flash disk, it changes the names of the .iso files.
