Questions about purchasing Upgrade Protection

Thread needs solution

I have been using True Image since version 11 and have upgraded every year since. Now that True Image 2010 is out, I was going to purchase the upgrade online from Acronis, but I noticed that something called Upgrade Protection for $19.99 was also in the cart.

In your opinion, is it worth getting Upgrade Protection? Also, what happens after the 1 year of Upgrade Protection is up? Do I get to renew it?

Personally, I think Upgrade Protection is unnecessary, unless Acronis is planning on putting out multiple major upgrades each year, which as far as I know they have never done. Plus, when True Image 2011 comes out, who knows if I will even upgrade to that. I just want the updates to True Image 2010, which I know is included for free.

I may have answered some of my own questions, but I would like to hear your opinions too.

It does sound like you've answered your questions. I guess reading the fine print is important here and of course it's still a roll of the dice. Every company has their own program.

Generally I don't go for these options but recently I did for WinZip Pro. Purchased the upgrade assurance for $9.95 and was able to upgrade from WinZip 12 Pro to WinZip Pro 14 at no charge. I realize this is not related to Acronis software purchases but thought I would mention it as this was cost effective.

If Acronis' Upgrade Protection works like WinZip's, then that would be a good choice. Another good example is PerfectDisk's Upgrade Assurance were you would pay the price of the upgrade plus pay for Upgrade Assurance. Then after the year was up, you only pay the Upgrade Assurance renewal. I am hoping that someone can confirm or deny that is how Acronis' Upgrade Protection works.

That's the way WinZip had it set up. Worked very well.
