Receiving Windows Activation Message After Recovering an Archive to a New Disk

Thread needs solution

I am new to archiving my files. I purchased Acronis True Image Home 2010 along with the Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack 3 days ago. I successfully cloned my laptop hard-drive (containing Win7, software and data files) to a new desktop computer build with a larger 1TB drive. Now, Windows tells me I must activate the OS in the next 3 days. However, the software has already been activated on the laptop. Can it be activated on this new build or must I now buy another license for this OS? Has the fix for this been posted previously in this forum? I did a search to no avail. Thanks in advance.

It may be offtopic here, but nevertheless - Windows always require reactivation when hardware changes significantly. If original installation was boxed retail version, it should reactivate without problems. If it was an oem version shipped with laptop, it will most likely refuse to acivate on different motheboard.

thanks for the response dev-anon. I actually rebuilt the laptop by installing a new (duo-core) cpu and larger capaciy sata drive. I installed a box version of Win 7 to replace the vista OEM OS. I hope I do not have problems activating; but if I do, so be it.
