Recover From Total Drive Failure

Thread needs solution

Im currently using build 6613 trying to restore my old 2 TB hard drive to a brand new 4 TB hard drive. Its my secondary drive and my OS drive was unaffected although I did decide to do a clean install since I had my backups. Well now when I try to restore through acronis 2015 its pops up a dialog box saying it cant find version 2 and to either browse for it or ignore and the options are retry, cancel, or browse. Any of the three options close the box and immediately reopen it. All the original backup files are there and haven't been touched since they were created. I had also verified a few weeks ago when the drive started throwing S.M.A.R.T errors and it verified successfully. I desperately need help. All my important school and work files were stored on that drive. I haven't tried my third backup mainly because its off site and its a few months old.

In the GUI click on "V" at the right side of the task name. Choose Validate and then select Ignore each time you are prompted. This will get the TI internal database back in sync. This can happen if some of the backup files were deleted or moved using File Explorer instead of the application. Try the restore again after the validation completes.

I validated and it validated almost instantly even though the backup is over 2 TB and said it was valid. Also It never prompted me to ignore anything. Im still unable to restore my files and trying to use restore disk just crashes acronis 2015

I was going to uninstall and reinstall acronis but the uninstaller keeps giving runtime errors and wont uninstall.

Michael, download the Acronis Cleanup Tool from the link in my signature and run this as Administrator to fully remove your old ATIH 2015 software - this will also remove all you backup tasks configuration and run history information.  Reboot the computer after using the cleanup tool before attempting to reinstall the software again.

If you boot from the Acronis Rescue Media when you want to restore your backup to the new 4TB drive this does not use or refer to the Acronis Database and will only look for the backups on your backup drive that are required to satisfy the restore being done, i.e. a full backup along with any differential or incremental backups for the same version chain.

Acronis's boot utility fails to see my 5 TB Seagate Backup Plus even though windows sees it just fine. I wrote the ISO to a Flash Drive but I can go out and buy some blank disc's later today if that would help.

Michael, how is your Seagate Backup Plus drive formatted - it needs to be NTFS for the rescue media to see it correctly, it can't be exFAT which some drives are formatted as.

It's NTFS. Could it be too big? I know windows use to need a driver for any drive over 4TB.

Michael, how is the drive connected to your computer?  The size shouldn't be an issue here but if you are using USB 3.0 then your ATIH 2015 Rescue Media may not have device drivers for this.  You should be able to check this if you can connect the drive to a USB 2.0 port.
