Recover True Image 2014 image to external hard drive

Thread solved

I am using Acronis True Image 2014. I have an image of my C: drive on an external disk. I would like to recover this entire disk image to another external hard drive. I don't seem to be able to "point" the recover module to a disk other than the C: drive of my computer. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Greg, welcome to these public User Forums.

The first check point for your recovery operation is to check that you can 'see' the external disk drive where you intend to recover your backup image to?  Look in Explorer and make sure you can identify what drive letter is being used for that target drive?  The external drive itself doesn't need to be partitioned other than to be using the same scheme as your backup image, i.e. MBR or GPT which you can do by using the 'Add new disk' tool provided by ATI 2014 in its tools menu.

You can check the drive scheme by either looking at the C: drive properties or else run the msinfo32 command in Windows and looking at the current BIOS mode value (this will show as either Legacy (for MBR) or UEFI (for GPT) systems).  It may also just show the make / name of the disk drive for MBR systems, i.e. Seagate, WD etc.

Once you know the correct drive letter for the target drive and it is using the correct matching scheme, then it should also show as an option for recovering to, assuming that all this is being done on the same system where your C: drive backup came from and the drive is of sufficient size for recovery operation.
