Reinstall True Image Home 2011

Thread needs solution

I purchased Acronis True Image Home 2011 via download on 4-5-2011 and installed it on Windows 7 system hard disk drive (C: drive). It worked fine.

About 2 weeks ago I installed a new SSD to use as boot drive and started clean by reinstalling Windows 7 from scratch. WIN 7 activated OK online with Microsoft. I have been slowly reinstalling programs, but when I go to reinstall True Image Home 2011 it keeps saying I am doing an upgrade and wants 2 serial numbers, old and new. I only have the original serial number that was given to me at purchase time and am not trying to upgrade, only want to install the original downloaded 2011 version.

Thanks for assistance.

It seems like you have installed an upgrade version. Upgrade versions require the serial number of the previous version and the new serial number. Acronis can help you recover your older license number.

If you purchased an upgrade version from some dealer that did not represent it as such, you can try and get satisfaction form that dealer.

No, it was not purchased from a third party. I purchased it online direct from the Acronis website. The software is registered with Acronis. It was supplied to me via a download direct from Acronis along with the serial number they sent me by email. It was not a boxed version.

I still have the original exe file that I downloaded from Acronis and the original serial number, but it won't let me reinstall.

I know Acronis probably has some anti-piracy procedures built in so that you can't install on two machines at the same time, but this is the exact same computer except for the SSD that was added. Even Microsoft didn't care when I reinstalled WIN 7, it activated right away with no problem. There should be a way to easily reinstall True Image Home.

Yes, you should be able to install on the same machine. If you purchased an upgrade version, it will always demand the serial number of the old version. If it's not an upgrade version, then it should never do that. Online product activation can sometimes be a pita.

You can try moving the serial number to a new computer (albeit actually the old computer) and see it that works.

How to move serial for ati2012 can be found on p 16 of the user guide:
Moving license between computers
One serial number allows you to install Acronis True Image Home 2012 on a limited number of computers. The Standard edition of the product can be activated on 1 computer only. For the Family Pack edition the limit is 3 computers. If during activation Acronis True Image Home 2012 detects that the limit is exceeded, it displays an appropriate error message. In such a case you can either buy a new serial number or move the license to your new computer from another one on which the product is already activated. If you want to move the license, perform the following steps.
To move the license from another computer:
1. In the window with the error message, click Move license from another computer.
2. On the opened Web page follow the instructions on the screen.
To perform this step, you need to have Acronis account. If you do not have an account yet, then create it first. You also have to register your serial number, if you have not done it. Then you need to choose from the list a computer from which you want to move the license. Note that on the chosen computer the product will be deactivated.

Scott, thank you for the information. I think I see what the problem may be, but don't know how to resolve it. Apparently Acronis considers what I purchased back in April to be an "upgrade" since I installed it over the trial version of 2011 I had been using. I always thought of it as being a new purchase since it was the first product I had paid for.

You say that in the window with the error message , I should click Move License from another computer. In my initial post above I attached a picture of the serial number screen and the error message screen. I don't see where there is an option to move the license. I do have an Acronis account and have registered the original serial number they gave me. Maybe you can only move the serial number on the Family Packs, I don't know?? Would there have been a Serial Number for the trial version I was running? If you have an idea what to try next, please let me know.

alas, I was quoting directly from the user guide.

Trials dont have srials. single licenses are supposed to me movable to a diff machine.

Maybe Anton or some else can jump in here on this issue.

halbert09,

You should contact Acronis Support so that they can sort out your licenses.

About 10 days ago, ATIH 2011 stopped working, wouldn't open. It had been working properly until then. No changes were made to the computer that might have caused it. I uninstalled it and attempted to reinstall it from the full download exe file. The install program requests two serial numbers. I only have the one that I received when I purchased and downloaded the full version 7/14/2011. I'm dead in the water. I had used the trial version first, if that is any help. I can't remember, but someone said trial versions don't use serial numbers. If the install program considers loading the full version over the trial version is an upgrade, then that may explain why it thinks I have two serial numbers, but I don't.

Thanks for any help.

I have requested that support look at this thread.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your posts and your help everyone.

halber09, I checked your case and it appears the serial number issue has been resolved.

MH_Bill, there is only one serial number in your Acronis web-account for Acronis True Image 2011 Home Upgrade. It is not possible to upgrade from a trial version, you still need an older product serial number.

It is possible you have used a different e-mail address for the product.

If you have any purchase confirmation you can always get in touch with me via a private a message so that we can resolve this issue.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
