REPLACING my initial backup on an external drive.

Thread needs solution

I had some big problems with NTFS indexing/attributes. (I made a big mess).
Had to do a system restore to fairly older restore point (before I start pharting around with NTFS... tons of huge image files, jpg/RAW).

SINCE then I've cleaned up and removed several problems and removed programs that I no longer use. I also cleaned out a lot of junk i.e., temp files, unnecessary browser add-ons, and so forth... long list. Also cleaned up the registry, all performed with CCleaner.

Previous to that I had performed a FULL backup of my whole system and Factory Image using the Free Trial version of Acronis 2013 on an external disk drive and already had prevously and recently made bootable DVDs for a system restore.

I need to start from the VERY Beginning and replace (Overwrite) the original backup currently on the external drive because obviously there's an awful lot that I Do NOT want included in a new full backup. The external drive is only a 1T drive and there's not enough memory to create a second full backup and I do not want to perform an incremental backup at this point. I simply want to Start Over FRESH now that my system is now back to functioning properly. Windows Vista Premium (stinks).

Appreciate your help in advance.

A 1 TB drive can't hold two full backup images? Are you perhaps mistakenly selecting "sector-by-sector" option, which you should not?

If not, how large is one of your backups and how much used space is there on the drive you're imaging?

I backed up the computer... Drve C which is a 585GB HD, used space (***Now, got rid of a lot of stuff and moved image files over to external drives) is 188GB
I also backed up Factory Image which is another 10.1GB. Factory Image is nearly full

In the meantime, want to initially get at least my System backed up and not going to deal with the images for now.

When I performed the original back up I was using a Trial version of Acronis 2013
I removed the trial version earlier and then downloaded and re-installed again and purchased the software.
For that reason, I can't go back to look at how the backup was initially set up on the trial version (unless the setup info was captured on the external drive?????) If that's the case I can hook it up again and take a look.

I don't want any of the initial backup remaining on the 1T external drive so I don't inherit any issues I had with my system before cleaning it up. I've read lots in the forums where people have chosen to *overwrite but appears Not to work as expected & why I'm asking the question to avoid another exercise in futility.

188 GB of used space would likely result in a backup image ~ 90 GB. You could store many of those on a 1 TB drive.

You can simply delete that old backup image if you no longer want it. The backups settings aren't relevant. Just create a new backup task with the settings you want for the new backups.

Normally it's best to delete backup images from within True Image, but as you installed True Image after making that backup it may not matter. If True Image does find and show that image, then delete it from within True Image. Otherwise, delete it as you would any other Windows file.

@ tuttle: One thing I would add for giving future advice in a situation like mine:

If anyone determines they need to remove a huge amount of data, such as removing an undesired back up as in my case, one should choose to "disable" sending deleted files to the recycle bin by right clicking properties on the recycle bin and select "Do not move files to the recycle bin".

A situation I'm aware of but a task I unfortunately neglected to perform which forced me to perform a system restore to a previous date. Also I need to remove restore dates that could involve that problem so it won't be available if I should ever have to restore again at some point and create a new restore date to current conditions which are now working correctly.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Also, whether you want deleted items to go to Recycle Bin or not is a Windows preference, not a True Image issue. True Image's operation will not be affected by such a setting. Windows also allows you to set how big the Recycle Bin can be, and again this is wholly separate from True Image's operation.
