[RESOLVED] Still problems with update

Thread needs solution

Got your recovery message. Still can't get past first step. Message now is that it can't find the file specified. No mention of 2203 now. All after fresh download of 7119.
Just wonder if 7119 is worth the hastle. Curious message "cannot find the file specified".

Issue resolved here.

Your best bet, imo, is to manually download new builds and install them, preferably after uninstalling the existing build.

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure how I would go about "manually" downloading the build. Each time I just go to the site and double click. What would I look for in the way of a "manual" download. Sorry to be such a novice. Is there a place I can read a review on the 7119 Changes?

Go to the sticky at the top of the forum page and follow the link there, hit the download button and download the update to your computer, then install it like any other program....if that is to hard or you don't understand I suggest you find a friend who has a bit more knowledge and get him/her to help you

It's as easy as going to Acronis.com

Go to acronis.com
Click on Log In (you have to have registered your serial number, then click the appropriate place on screen and register it).
After logging in, select Get Updates

You should be able to handle it from there.

Thanks for your patience. The method you described is the one I have always used. I guess I didn't know it was called a manual download. Regretfully I still cannot get it to run. I have been using Acronis products for at least 10 years and I feel I understand what you are saying. I have a feeling its has something to do with earlier problems I had when I installed ATI w/PP 2012 a few months ago. That took days and ultimately I turned my computer over to a man in Germany. That was painful but we did get it installed. I would like to have the update but my present version works and I doubt the changes in the update are important enough to pay for having someone guide me through it all. Thanks for your kindness and patience. I think I will just have to pass on 7119. Maybe when the new 2013 comes out I will be able to get the needed help free. Have a great day.

Tips installation:

use msconfig.exe to disable all non-microsoft services and all startup programs before doing an uninstall or install.

If you have a version installed, make a full backup before processing further.
uninstall existing version first
after installing new version, reboot and try program before using msconfig to return to normal startup. If there is a problem only after returning to normal startup the prob is due to a program conflict

I tried unchecking all but acronis and microsoft in msconfig including Avast antivirus while existing ATI was still installed and still couldn't get it to install. I then just clicked on another of the Acronis advices of the update and ran it from scratch and it didn't install but I did get an error print out and I can't interpret it but it could possibly give a clue as to what is going wrong. I don't know how to send it. I didn't uninstall ATI this time as it didn't work in the past and takes so long. See attached for print out.

I haven't had any updates for a while. I'm still interested in installing this update if someone can give me some advice.

Charles,

I reviewed your MSI.txt file. There are no apparent errors or Acronis components which have failed to install. Often failures like this can occur when a file or process that is in use cannot be stopped or overwritten successfully. There is not an indication of that here.

Scott has provided an excellent suggestion.

Since it didn't work for you, please see if this helps.

Put the copy of your build#7119 installer in a safe place.  Download the Acronis Clean Up Utility.  Export any tasks that you don't want to rebuild manually.  Make a current back up of your system.  Uninstall build #6154 using Programs & Features.  Run the clean up utility (following all instructions).  Reboot, Install build #7119, reimport your taska if appicable.

Appreciate your feedback if this works.

***EDIT

Did you see an error like this EXAMPLE? Typically a failure like this appears in the log.

with msconfig, go to services, check box to hide all microsoft services, then click on disable all, thengo to startup an click disable all, then click apply and click restart.

uninstall ati using windows , run the ati cleaner,
http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545

install download of the latest version. when all done, then with msconfig check box for normal startup, apply restart.

For shadowsports: Here is the failure notice I get each time. It takes maybe a second to run the entire operation and flash this notice.

is the failure installing ati or PP? irrc, pp has to be installed after ati. if you had pp installed you;ld wanyt to uninstal it befotre un installing at. then instal in reverse of that order.

There is the possibility you are missing the Media Builder. You might want to try this.

Restart the 7119 regular program download install.
Choose install and then you should be presented with a screen which says
Modify Installation
Repair installation
Choose the modify and make sure both the 2012 program and the Rescue Media l builder is check marked.

Proceed with the re-install.
Then reinstall the plus pack.

Understand, you can download the Plus Pack ISO from your download account and once you have burnt that iso as a Recovery CD, you have the same functionality as if you created the CD from the installed version of plus pack.

Al restores to different hardware needs to be done from the Recovery CD anyway.

I have just discovered that I cannot open anything ending in .msi I don't believe you can help me until this is fixed. There are plenty of fellow sufferers in this .msi thing but the few fixes I have tried don't work. Thanks but I guess its this problem first. Maybe that will fix the Acronis installation problem if I can ever figure it out. Boy this is so much fun. :(

I dont believe it is supposed to work this way but when I switched and logged in as administrator the clouds lifted and the install ran smooth as glass. Using "run as administrator" did nothing. Both the basic and PP. Great Joy. And all it took was three days of constant trying. Thanks to you guys for your patience...I thought you might want to try this the next time you have tried everything and it still didn't work. Peace out!!!

I guess is should really be called "Run As Administrator but not quite".

If you want to read more than most sane people care to read on this topic, then look here:

http://help.wugnet.com/vista/Pseudo-Admin-Run-Administrator-ftopict2321…

If you were logged in as a standard user, then when you clicked Run as Admin, it should have prompted for credentials, at which pint you would have typed in an admin name and pword. That's supposed to give you admin access for that exectution of the file.
