Restore Errors - Makes no sense here

Thread needs solution

I sort of have a question and then a problem.

QUESTION/VERIFICATION (what True Image Home really is and does):

The UI confuses me a bit. So I created a backup, is this basically the same thing as a standard image of your C drive like Norton Ghost in the sense of a "image"?

Because the UI is weird, when you want to restore you have to specify Source and destination. Obviously the source should be your .tib file right? because that's the source of the image that you're restoring and the destination is where you're gonna apply that image (where you are restoring it to on your PC).

I guess that is right? When I run the restore, it should put my entire hard disk in a state at that time (hence your standard PC image concept) right?

PROBLEM:

Second, I cannot get my freakin backup to restore. I've got a .tib file. Ok so that's on my external USB hard drive. I get several issues. The first issue which is kinda intermittent is that I get "Failed to add backup to the list" after I browse to my .tib and try to add it to the backup list. Not sure why, but here's the error code info:

More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base.
To access the online resource manually, enter the event code at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x01010005+0x01010005+0x01EF0013+0x000B041D+0x00040011+0x0000FFF0+0x80070002

No idea why and sometimes it's happy and this does not show.

Then when I can get it to add to the backup list, and then I go and specify the source and destination, and then run the restore, it freezes.

No idea why I'm having so much trouble here. I was real impressed by the product thus far but this is pissing me off. Is it my PC or does acronis have these problems all the time when trying to do a restore? Lets hope not because I chose you guys instead of Norton Ghost this time as my backup and restore solution for images.

Dave,
Please check the version of Acronis True Image Home 2012 that you are running. You can do this by clicking on the "?" in the top right corner of the ATIH 2012 screen and selecting "About Acronis True Image Home". The current build is 7133. If you are not running this version, the first step to troubleshoot your problems would be to download the 2012 build 7133 from your online account, and install that version. As far as your questions about the software, yes it is similar to the "Ghost" product in that if you do a disk based backup of your hard drive, it creates a .tib file that is the image of your drive. If you are restoring the entire drive, you should consider using the bootable Recovery Media to do the restore. You can create it from within the program or you can download the ISO image from your account and create a bootable CD/DVD from the ISO. The problems you are having are not typical for ATIH 2012. Some addtional information about your system could be helpful as well (Windows version, type of drives, USB type, etc.).

I in fact just uninstalled and reinstalled my Acronis version which I redownloaded from my account. That version is 7133 so yes it's the latest.

For some reason it's not wanting to add my backup to the backup list, I keep getting that error that I posted in my initial thread here. Not sure why. I doubt it's corrupted.

I'll try the bootable recovery option....and report back how it went. Thanks.

machine info:
- Windows 7
- Dell laptop
- just the standard hard disk that came with the Dell laptop

Dave,

SOmething I don't understand. Why do you need to add the backup to the backup list? If you created the backup with Acronis True Image (ATI), it should be in the backup list...
The backup list is not a list of TIB files, it is a list of tasks.

You almost have to use a bootable CD to restore don't you? Can Acronis restore an image while running Windows on the same machine?

Dave,

Absolutely: when restore a partition that contains any system, use the recovery CD. Even if you restore the disk to a disk separate from the host machine system disk.

If you restore a data partition, then it is OK to use ATI in Windows.

We know that ATI is designed to be able to restore from Windows, and this works in many cases. ACronis and MPVs, however, recommend to restore system partitions from the recovery CD.

Note that you need the recovery CD anyway, in case your disk dies and/or you cannot run Windows
